At work there's a FTP server with static IP for clients downloading contents. However, this is the same box as the web server (IIS6) and we want to relocate the FTP to a linux based standalone FTP server.

They are all VMs and we haven't decided what to use for the FTP server, perhaps FileZilla on Ubuntu or Openfiler.

No matter how we do it, the new FTP server will have a new IP address, and that's the problem, as we will notify all FTP users about our change of IP but the respond time from individuals varies as a matter of fact.

Can we have some sort of IP redirection in place to solve the problem? For temporary or for long.

Or, what are the best practices for this given situation, say if we get to re-organise the server infrastructure.

There's only a default ftp user assigned in openfiler ftp service - openfiler/password.

I've been pulling my hairs out for trying to add users to the ftp server but without any luck.

I have turned on the local LDAP server within Openfiler and add users there and still no luck.

It's for production, so at the end of the day I might have to stick with the default user 'openfiler' and just change its password!

Any helps appreciated.

AFAIK VMWare utilise it's own filesystem vmfs for performance and efficiency reasons.

What will that be if I host my VMs on an Openfiler server which setup as NAS using ext3 filesystem?

I'm building a NAS using Openfiler2.3 (from 32-bit ISO), first of all I want to experiment it on VM first before going out and buy the harddrives needed.

I created 5 virtual drives on VMware, sda is 2GB and the rest 1GB each (sdb to sde).

I left sda blank and want to setup a RAID 10 disk using sdb, sdc, sdd and sde, 4 RAID partitions are setup successfully, but when I try to create a RAID device the only option for RAID level is 1, 0, 5 and 6.

RAID 10 is not there!

Can someone let me know what have I missed, please?

We have a RAID 5 setup with 3 SATA disks, #2 went down as reported on the pre-POST screen. Unfortunately, for some reasons beyond my control, the system was rebooted with a degraded RAID :-O

Windows XP (64-bit) loaded, CHKDSK ran automatically and done its recovery!

From that point onwards, the following error prompts every time even in Safe Mode:

lsass.exe - The endpoint format is invalid

I took those 3 disks to the data recovery expert and need to wait at least 2-4 days for results.

There are 2 VMs on multiple files stored in this RAID 5 array, and there's no backup!

Sorry, I just inherited the system from an ex-staff who has left the company 2 months before I joined.

How likely the data can be recovered?
