I need to restart a windows 2008 server only if the gatwaay is not responding. Is there a way to conditionally ping the gateway and if the gateway is not reachable a restart is triggered?

I need to convert a physical Windows 98 laptop to a virtual machine. I need to do this because I need to migrate an old application which still is used, and cannot run natively on Windows 7.
Any ideas on how to proceed with the conversion please?
In Linux is there an equivalent for Windows shadow copies? I would like to use this for a small setup nothing big but it would be nice to have some type of functionality like shadow copies.
I would like to know if there is a utility that uses the bits service, to help me transfer some large files over a wacky wan connection. These files happen to be available via a UNC share.

I have just installed an exchange 2007 server. We are not using the edge server role. In Exchange 2007 are there enabled any out the box anti spam features? I can't see antyhing relating to anti spam managment, but from certain delivery notications, the server "seems"to be filtering certain messages as spam. Excuse me if the question is not very clear, can someone help me out? I am mainly interested to know if the antispam is enabled as an out of the box feature.

I need to implement a certificate on a web server (apache). The requirement is that it must work with ssl, so I need to purchase a certificate. I would like to avoid having to buy a certificate at least for now. From your experience does anybody recomend any free certificate company, who I can count on and is known to be good and reputable? I Would appreciate answers based only on experience of using such companies.

I am going to be administering a small network of linux based workstations for a charity institution (not all have the same distro- some are ubuntu and some are fedora). Is there something in Linux that is similar to group policy in windows?. For example I would like to standardize the wallpapers - have only firefox as a browser - default VLC as the media player etc etc.

How can I limit the login times in linux for certain users? For example I have to a user that only needs to be enabled from 8am till 5pm? Is there a way of automating this. My environment is a Centos server administered via webmin.
