I'm trying to connect from a Windows 2008 server to Windows 2003 using WMI, however, each time I get access denied. There is no firewall between the servers, no hardware or software. The account is a local administrator account, working using RDP - and working from another Windows 2003 server.

The account is a local account, the server is not connected to a domain.

However, from Windows 2008 I get "Access Denied". Besides firewall and lack of credentials, which is not an issue, what other setting might be causing this?

Is it possible, from a server level (Apache), to enable HTTPS but that we don't share the certificate via the browser, the certificate must be installed prior to accessing HTTPS via the browser?

I'm looking for a way to disable Remote Desktop login for Windows 2008 for a specific user (a local administrator account), either using the command line or a script (such as VBS) in Windows 2008.

I understand I need to modify the local security policy, however, I have not found a way to perform this via either cmd or a script-based solution.

Anyone have any recommendations to how to solve this?

Is it possible to restrict a Windows AD account to only login from specific ips, using a non third party tool?

A customer of mine is still using Solaris 8, now I have a product which requires testing against this OS, however looking at Oracle, they merely provide 10 and 11. Is it possible to find Solaris 8 for download (x86) still? Or is it a lost cause?

I'am using a machine as a router, it works sort of fine, however if I do a ping -t whatever.server it will always cause a 3-4% package loss, no matter what server. Looking at ifconfig or netstat -i show no errors what so ever, what are some of the tools I might use to analyse this error?

Using wireshark tells me that it does a request but it gives no reply, so the errors seems to be on the incoming end.

Any idea or suggestions is very welcome, I am kind of lost here.

UPDATE: It seems I get this reply from pinging a VM on the same machine also, I will try and replace the network cable to see if this resolves the issue. I will update this question when I have done the switch. Thanks for the help so far.

Does anyone know of a good VPN client that is not the official one from Cisco for Linux?

Does anyone know if there is limit on how many wmic requests Windows can handle simultaneously if they are originating from a Windows service? The reason I'm asking is because my application fails when too many simultaneous requests have been initiated. I don't get any data back from the application.

However, If I compile the Python application and run it as a stand alone application all will work fine.

The wmic calls are looking like this:

This makes me wonder, is there a limit Windows Services and what they can perform? I mean, if the .exe file can handle all requests, then it must be something to do with the fact that I have compiled it as a Windows service.

I just ran df -h on a Solaris 9 machine and got a a very weird output, something I have never seen before.

I have a file looking like this,

"xxxxxx"
"yyyyyy"
"aaaaaa"
"cccccc"
"bbbbbb"
"eeeeee"
"oooooo"
"zzzzzz"

Wanting to replace each \n in this file I use:

tr '\n' ',' < INPUT > OUTPUT

Which works fine. The output is to be expected:

"xxxxxx","yyyyyy","aaaaaa","cccccc"....

However

I can't do any manipulation using sed or awk on this file, none what so ever (the result is always blank, like: sed 's/,/hello/g' displays nothing), in Linux using the GNU package this works fine, but with non GNU not. Can anyone tell me why this is?

Is there any tool that can perform actions similar to CURL, basically I need to post JSON to a server via a command line. I tried using CURL, but it requires way to many dependencies, which is not something I can install on this machine.

I can't compile this so it should be packaged and ready for installation.

Is there a command line tool for Windows XP to display system resources, like available memory usage, cpu, diskspace etc... Small and requires a non-install.
