Currently we have a security group named: Limited_IT_Admins that has special permissions (restricted to only certain tasks they can do) on ~7 City OUs within a Country OU.
[Country] <- top level OU
[City01]
[City02]
[City03]
[City04]
[City05]
[City06]
[City07]
However, now I have to split this single Security Group into three individual groups. Users from the Limited_IT_Admin group will be split up into the three separate new groups. The users will need the same access as the Limited_IT_Admins did, but only on their respective OUs.
Limited_IT_Admin_01 - User01
City01, City02, City03
Limited_IT_Admin_02 - User02
City04, City05
Limited_IT_Admin_03 - User03
City06, City07
Instead of having to try to recreate all the special permissions that were set on the security group, is there any easier way to copy the permissions the Limited_IT_Admins had to the three new groups?
I have created a new print server, and would like to move our users from old to new. We have a mixed environment of XP and Win7 (64 bit). The old server is Windows Server 2003 SP2 (not R2 & 32 bit) and the new is Windows Server 2008 SP1 (64bit). I have created an alias for the new print server so that in the future, this will not be an issue.
However, I now have to move users from old to new. XP doesn't play nice with the alias nor does W2K3 SP2. Eventually, the few XP users will be get upgraded to Win7 and the 2003 Terminal Server users will go on W2K8, so using the server's proper name is not an issue since it will be short lived. (win7 users work fine with the alias) I have tried scripting this with VBScript and PowerShell to no avail.
Any easier ways then hopping onto each machine?
The windows XP, and Mac's can pull DHCP and use DNS from the Windows 2003 server but Windows 7 can pull an IP from DHCP but cannot resolve DNS. However, I can ping the DNS server by FQDN & IP but cant browse or connect via RDP. It won't resolve any of the other servers/workstation by name but can connect to them via IP. (Browse and RDP.)
Any ideas?
So here is the issue. A client of mine is using Mac OSX Snow Leopard as his web server. He has multiple clients, and sites, etc. He also has multiple designers who access the system.
He has a user who he has locked down to certain directories (for sites he only works on). When the user uploads his files, my client has to go in a root to set the owner to _www so that Apache will have permissions to run the files.
What he'd like to know is remove the need to constantly have to go in behind the user to propagate the permissions on the files. In Windows, he is just using Filezilla without a problem since the user isn't integrated into the OS.
Any ideas how to accomplish this?
Performing initial setup:
I have made sure the support tools are up to date as well. This is happening on ALL the servers on the domain - ideas? Thanks!
I've tried this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946198 and no luck!
Any ideas? I've been Googling for 2 hours.
I have rebuilt my machine 3 times (Windows 7) and upon next boot the network will not connect. (Wirelessly or Wired)
If I right click to troubleshoot, I receive the error Diagnostic policy service is not running. When I try to start it, I receive "Access Denied : Error 5".
Thus, I have to do a System Restore to get it to work again. However, this is my work laptop. I do not have time to do a system restore and install software every morning for 30min-1hour.
Anyone else have this issue? All I can find it people saying to do a system restore. However, that ONLY works for me until the next time I shut down. Once I boot up - it's broken again.
