What are the recommended settings for a terminal server?

I have a group of up to 300 persons (they are working shifts, so I guess 100-120 on at same time is unthinkable) who is going to access a terminal server.

The services given on the terminal services server is Internet and Outlook.They will also have access to shared network spaces like their own homespace, shared spaces and some printers.

I was planning to install the terminal services server on vmware-server.

What are the recommended settings for the "hardware"? How many CPU's do I need? How much diskspace do you recommend?

What is the recommended setup for a server like this?

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a good setup?

The plan is that when accessing this server, no data can be transferred back to the client.

I have gotten a serios annoying question. The annoyingness of the question might come of the fact that it's beautiful weather outside, and that makes the office like a bakeroven. Not nice, when you are indoors.

oh well, back to the question.

I have set up a Windows server 2008 R2 with IIS and a FTP-server. I have set up a ftproot-directory with a drop directory directly below.

What I want to achieve is :

a) ftpuser gets access to the root directory. b) ftpuser can see the drop directory c) ftpuser can transfer file to drop directory d) ftpuser cannot see the content of the drop directory

Ftpuser gets access, and sees the drop directory. Ftpuser cannot see the content of the drop directory.

Problem is that I cannot transfer files from within Windows Explorer. I get a 550 Access is denied with: An error occurred. Please check that you can actually access the directory.

BUT, I have tried using FileZilla, and I can do anything above including D.

Why can't I use the builtin FTP-client in Windows XP or Windows 7, but I can use FileZilla to achieve the same thing?

Any good advice on how to rectify this?

Is there an fairly easy way to find out how many workstations in my net that does not use wsus update? I have a feeling that many of my workstations does in fact not use wsus update, but instead choose to go online and download the updates.

I don't want to do this manually, there is about a thousand workstations.

Thanks for all previous help! I have a question regarding av script.

My computers is all XP, and needs the following when I do my thing :

I have 2 ODBC-connections (towards MS-SQL-DB), which I have a username / password to create a connection to.

Does anyone have any advice on how to accomplish this? Either in a batch-script or otherwise.

I've beeen trying to set up a batch-script which should do the following:

First, install a exe file, preferrably quietly (of course check if it's already installed). Then traverse to where .net framework is installed. After the traverse, it should set Caspol rights and regasm. And then copy some shortcuts and a checkfile (to see if this has already been done).

Does anyone have any idea why this is not working? When I do the commands by copy & paste into my commandline, everything works, but not when the script is running.

Suggestions on what is wrong, and some improvements would be greatly appreciated.

What I have figured out is this:

GP:

User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Internet Explorer -> Internet Control Panel -> Site to Zone Assignment list.

If I enable it, and add a site with the value 2, All my users gets this in their settings as allowed.

Problem is that this deletes all users previous zone settings.

Anyone have any idea on how I can avoid this?

Easy question this time.... I have a installation file, and a registry edit in my script.

How do I set up a ODBC-connection as well, actually I need to script up 2 ODBC-connections.

I notice that archived elements is stored locally on the computer.

But is it also stored on the exchange server?

Need a walkthrough on howto create a VLAN.

I have the ipadress space for the VLAN I have the subnett for the VLAN

What I don't know is how to go about creating a VLAN. Can anyone advice me? Where, when, how?
