I have a laser printer (Samsung ML-2010) that is in good condition, it works in Windows and old linuxes, but not with my fresh installation of ArchLinux. The printer is recognised and configured, but not printing, saying about any job:

canceled at
Fri 06 Jun 2014 10:15:26 PM EEST 
"Filter failed"

The question is -- where to look at to find more? Cups logs don't seem to have anything related.

I'm trying to implement the easy to maintain backup solution for our local linux server. The goal is to be able to restore the whole system from image file.

What I am thinking of is just to issue following script with cron

FILENAME=`date +%F`.bak
dd if=/dev/sda | bzip > /media/remote_backups/$FILENAME

The problem is that this script should be run in special environment - when only basic services work and no filesystems are mounted.

So, the question is: Is it possible to reboot the server by cron, for example, weekly, and then not boot normal mode, but some kind of "special" mode, when nothing loads, except:

  1. mount remote partition for backups at /media/remote_backups/
  2. execute dd as previously described

I have successfully configured ssmtp to send emails from our local server (using a single external mail account) for sending reports, build results and so on.

The other task is to let our software we are tesing to send email via this linux box, so that it is required to receive email via plain smtp, without authentication and for each received email execute ssmpt to resend this message. Is there any dedicated smtp-receiver-only software, capable to launch external utilities, upon receiving mails?

I have a custom tool which generates a part of nginx config in the following form, for example:

upstream  backend  {
  ip_hash;
  server server1:8080;
  server server2:8080;
  server localhost:8080 backup;
 }

From time to time some servers go down, some go up and the next update could produce following:

upstream  backend  {
  ip_hash;
  server server1:8080;
  server server3:8080;
  server server2:8080 down;
  server localhost:8080 backup;
 }

As you can see, server3 has appeared and server2 is marked down. My question is following: does nginx care the order of servers presented in config? Do I need to sort output of my custom tool?

In this example the initial order was changed and I don't know if nginx will handle it correctly.
