I had an 18.04.4 version of ubuntu that I recently upgraded, and lo and behold the kernel upgraded to 5.4, which is not what I wanted, as I have hardware that doesn't work on 5.4. I tried re-installing with 18.04.4 from usb, but it once again automatically upgrades me to 5.4

How can I install 18.04.4 without a kernel upgrade ?

Our IT dept wants to roll out a windows service across all machines on its domain. The machines are running Windows XP. Is this possible? Also, is it possible to have targetted rollout to a subset of the machines?

I would like to load balance a group of windows 2003 servers. They are not on a domain, and I am not using active directory.

I would like the synchronize the time for these boxes.

What is the best way of doing this?

I am running windows xp, and I have created an ubuntu server as a guest on virtualbox.

Network is set to NAT.

My dsl modem is configured for dynamic dns through dyndns.

Ubuntu is running an ssh server.

I would like to be able to ssh into ubuntu from outside the box.

Can anyone help me please?

My requirements:

1) must be able to continue operating after node failure 2) logs must be recoverable after node failure - no data loss 3) must be able to scale out 4) must be transactional - when a message is logged, I need a guarantee that it is persisted to disk

This is similar to a previous question of mine, but I just realized that importance of the transactional feature. This is for a medical app; we cannot afford to lose any log messages.

I have a load balanced farm of servers that need to log various messages to an audit log, which will be processed off line at a later stage (This is a medical app, so all access to patient records must be audited). Currently, logs are being stored as XML using NTEXT data type to a SQL Server database, but I am looking for a more performant solution. Don't really need SQL because the logs are not queried by the servers, only processed at a later time.

I need a fast, high availability solution. I've looked into Facebook's Scribe. Can anyone suggest other alternatives? The servers are WCF services.

I have installed a X.509 certificate into IIS 6.0 on Windows Server 2003. I would like to give the IIS user accesss to the certificate's private key.

I can do this on Windows 7 IIS manager very easily. How can I do this on 2003?

I have a redmine install, that uses sendmail to notify users of issue updates. I have access to the admin account, and also to my regular account. I cannot enter my regular email as the admin account email: each user must have a unique email address.

I would like to alias the admin email so that it is sent to my regular account instead.

So, map admin@MY_COMPANY.com -----> MY_NAME@MY_COMPANY.com

Is this possible. I am only using sendmail to send mail; the company email server is managed on another server.

Our client software is currently sending large amounts of xml to our SQL Server db, stored as NTEXT, and the db is getting huge and performance is suffering. This xml doesn't need to be indexed, just needs to be persisted somehow to disk. Is there an easy, robust way of storing this stuff to disk on a remote server? I looked into CouchDB, but I'm sure there is an easier way of doing this. I prefer unix solution, but anything goes.

I have Hudson configured to connect to a Gitosis managed repository. I am using the Git plugin.

To manually clone a repo, I need to enter my ssh pass phrase. How can I make Hudson aware of my passphrase? There is a version of ssh-agent that comes with msysgit, but this is only available from git bash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
