I would be interested to deploy bacula as my backup solution. My drawback so far is that I haven't found how/if is possible for a client to determine what he wants to be backed up.

My understanding is that this must be defined inside Director and Client has no way to change it. (Except for contact the administrator)

Is that correct ? If yes, is there any elegant way to bypass it ?

Good morning folks

Could you give me a bit of help with the following problem ?

I have a dns load balancing mechanism and an alias (hostAlias) which may point to host01, or host02

I want to configure apache and shibboleth to work with that alias. What happens is ...

User types : https://hostAlias (it points to host01) apache host01 : redirect to shibboleth shibboleth host01 : redirect to **https://hostAlias.cern.ch/Shibboleth.sso/ADFS**

Now, there are two cases. Either this time hostAlias will point again to host01 , or it will point to host02. If it points to host02, host01 will not get the anwser and the authentication fails.

Also, about ssl certificates, I guess that each host will need its own certificate. right ? Should I need a certificate with DNS aliases ?

I would like some recommendations for the following problem. I use Ossec for log analysis. What I want, is after extracting the fields to save them in an Oracle database.

For example, if I have this line

IP:(\d+.\d+.\d+.\d+)@(\w+): (forcefield \w+); (.*)

I want $1 go to Ip tables, $2 to host, $3 to msg ... etc

For the moment I am considering to execute a script when I have a match, but I looking for a better approach if possible.

Is it possible on Linux to find out which applications have accessed a certain file in the last 24 hours?

I've come with a few possible solutions:

  1. Watch lsof. It works, but it's constrained to watch's granularity.
  2. inotify sounds good... but no information of the application accessing the file is provided.
  3. auditd may be useful, but I haven't checked that yet.

What ways can I see which applications have accessed a certain file within a given time period?

I have the following problem.

We have the partition /iAmAPartition mounted on ~100 client machines via NFS. i want to move the partition somewhere else (because it's a mess) and have the files recreated automatically (the application is taking care of that).

the problem is that some of the clients are using the exported data as input in scripts.

the actual question is .... what can i do in order to make this change without breaking something ? if i stop the nfs daemon, what will happen to the clients ? will they stall or not ?

As you can see the even numbers are not compress, but the odd are. Any the most important is that there is not log kept !
