I have an active domain with about 20 machines, each running some applications we have setup.

We need to set up IIS on these machines to serve files that some of these applications are outputting.

In the server manager on the active directory system I installed IIS just fine across all of them, but I can't seem to find a way to set IIS settings from here (for example mime-types, virtual directories, etc...).

All of these instances of IIS need to be setup the exact same way. Is there some way to set these settings up and propagate them to the rest of the machines in the active directory group?

For various reasons, I need to enable telnet access (over the private network), and when someone tries to log in with a specific user account (lets say CheckStatus), instead of giving the user a shell it instead runs some very very quick code/script/whatever and returns one of two very specific strings. This account can have a password on it.

I'm essentially trying to replicate what happens when you try to SSH into Github's servers, where they tell you shell access is not granted.

I thought the solution to this would be to replace the user's shell, so I created the script:

then tried to set it as the user's shell via:

test@development-1:~$ chmod +x test.sh
test@development-1:~$ chsh
Password:
Changing the login shell for test
Enter the new value, or press ENTER for the default
        Login Shell [/bin/bash]: /home/test/test.sh
chsh: /home/test/test.sh is an invalid shell

Any ideas on the best way to do this?

For reference, most of our systems are Ubuntu 14.04.

IT recently re-setup my laptop with 64bit windows. He installed Sql Server dev edition for me and set it up with a username and password. I logged in and tried changing Sql Server to windows authentication, restarted sql server, and now it won't let me log in with my domain account.

I have tried adding myself to the SQLServerSQLAgentUser and SQLServerMSSQLUser groups on my local system, but Sql Server still keeps saying my domain account is not authorized. My account is a local system administrator.

How can I get Sql Server to let me log in?

So I am trying to migrate schema changes to my production system. To do this I want to first test the schema changes on a local backup of my production database, so I downloaded the latest backup from the server, restored it to my localhost's Sql Express 2008 R2 setup, and applied all my schema changes.

Now I want to do a quick run-through of the system with the schema changes applied to do a quick verification. However, my dev environment is setup to login to Sql Express using my local windows login, and while I can run queries against the database backup when I attempt to log into the database with my Asp.NET application I get a Login Failed For User 'Matttop\KallDrexx'

My connection string is <add name="MyJobLeadsDbContext" connectionString="Data Source=localhost\sqlexpress;Initial Catalog=myjobleads_prod;Integrated Security=SSPI;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> and the only change I made to use the backup database is to change the db name in the connection string.

Why is my Asp.Net application unable to access the backed up database and how can I grant my local user access?

So I recently found out about how Remote IIS can manage the Asp.net properties of my web site, such as connection strings, smtp settings etc.. Managing it through IIS rather than through web.config transforms means it's much easier to deploy settings without having to store my database connectionstring (with credentials!) in source control, as well as other critical data that's only relevant to the production system but no relevance to development.

However, whenever I add/change settings via Remote IIS, those changes are reverted the next time I publish my site (because remote IIS manager is writing the changes to web.config and thus web.config gets overwritten with my local copy).

Is there any way to get the Asp.net settings that were changed via the Remote IIS Manager to persist after future publishes?

The server is running IIS 7.

I am currently doing some research to get some preliminary IT cost projections for a project, and I was looking at Azure. Since this is a startup, I do not want to deal with the IT operations myself and instead am looking at having it all professionally hosted. I am looking at azure due to the SLA assurances, already in place disaster recovery operations, and the reliability.

I'm playing with some numbers, and I am wondering if hosting my database on Sql Azure is an option, while hosting the actual webpage on another host until I need the frontend scalability of Azure. Is this actually feasible or will the latency in requests between the web host and azure be too much and I would be better off hosting both on the same service?

I have a web application that I have created that uses the basic asp.net authentication. The authentication systems are working fine code-wise, however I cannot get IIS7 to send the cookies to IE web browsers.

When I browse to my site in Chrome or Firefox, everything works great and I can see the cookies in the headers. However, when I try to login under IE, the login succeeds but no cookies are sent in the HTTP headers.

I have no idea how to debug this issue any further. IE is set to accept all cookies, but IIS does not appear to be serving any cookies to the browser. If I am on the webserver itself and I browse to http://localhost/ everything works fine, but if I use the dns name for the webserver I get no cookies as well.

If I configure the application's web.config to use URL based authentication when IIS detects it can't use cookies, IIS somehow sees that it cannot get cookies and then uses URL based authentication.

As of right now to me it seems like IIS is the issue since I have cookies fully enabled in my IE and it still doesn't work. Furthermore, the same web application works on my local IIS server in IE with cookies functioning perfectly, even when external users use my dns name. However, I don't know where to go from here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
