Following is my current SQL Server raid configuration:
I would like to keep 3 day worth of daily full backup and hourly transaction log backup on the system so its easily accessible. So my question is where should I put theses backup file and why.
I have iDRAC 6 Express but I can't seem find any documentations outlining how to setup Email Alert to send through an secure SMTP server (ie Gmail's SMTP server).
I'm wondering if there's the optimal Cache setting for the following Raid controllers and raid setups. (OS: windows 2008 R2, App: II7, DB: SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise)
PERC 6/i:
(The default setting seems to be: No Read Ahead/Write-back)
2 Disks Raid 1 contains OS, IIS installation as web host
PERC H700:
2 Disks Raid 1 contains OS, SQL Server installation and Transaction logs
4 Disks Raid 10 contains only SQL Data file
What would be the optimal cache setting for the above three Raid configs with respect to their usage?
I'm setting up a SQL Server on Win 2k8 with following hardware:
I've read some suggested that putting log file and OS on its own RAID1 while the rest of data is on RAID10 would be the best config for 8 disks. However I'm short of 2 disks and wondering which config would be just as good.
Option 1) 2 x RAID1 for OS and Logs, 4 x RAID10 for Data
Option 2) 6 x RAID10 for OS, Logs and Data
P.S. Does partitioning the disk in RAID10 makes any difference?
