I am asking to verify what I hear from my provider.

I just bought domain name (let's say foobar.com) and I would like to redirect it to helloworld.blog.com in such way, that if somebody enters foobar.com in browser, the content from helloworld.blog.com is shown but the address is not changed (foobar.com should remain).

When user would like to go to sub-pages address will change, because entire site (WordPress) uses hardcoded absolute URLs. Pity, but that's OK.

Previously I bought a domain at different provider, and I simply made 2 clicks to achieve this. Now I have different provider and he explains that even if such option is done by just clicking in reality there is small page created at original address (foobar.com) with frame pointing out to target site (helloworld.blog.com).

Is this true? I mean does redirecting URL (with URL kept) is done this way? I don't want to be accussed of traffic abuse or something like this (and besides it smells bad for me).

Or panel control at my current provider is too weak and missing crucial features?

Note: I don't have problems in technical terms of writing such proxy html page with frame with it, I am simply looking for a way to ensure/deny it is done this way for real.

I just installed MySQL 5.5 and right after install I was asked to set root password by executing those two commands:

/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root password 'new-password'
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h linux-opxd password 'new-password'

or

/usr/bin/mysql_secure_installation

I executed first command -- OK. I executed second command this time with error:

error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'

I re-executed the first one (for checking) -- error as above.

So, I executed mysql_secure_installation. Everything went fine and my password was recognized. So I executed the first two commands again -- and error again.

As another check:

mysql --user=root

The same error as above.

I tried resetting the password with mysql authentication, also I tried /usr/bin/mysql_upgrade -u root -p -- still the error while trying to launch mysql console as root.

So finally I turned authentication off, connected to console and executed this:

SELECT user();

The output -- root@. If I connect like this:

mysql --user='root@localhost'

I will get root@localhost@.

So for now it seems it is not the problem with privileges, or lack of password or anything like this, but no recognizing the user which was given at command line -- mysql appends @ at the end and this seems to be the problem (at least for my eye).

The question is: how to make MySQL recognize the given user?

Let's say I have tablespace A located in the directory /A1, and I would like to move it (everything) to directory /A2?

I use openSUSE + PostgreSQL 9.1, and if this simplifies anything -- I can stop it (entire server) without a problem. Please note I am asking about entire tablespace and the tablespace already contains data!

Let's say I have a simple web page with svg image in it:

If I make this page as static html page and view it directly svg is displayed. If I type the address of this svg -- it is displayed.

But when I make this as .aspx page and launch it dynamically from Visual Studio I get alt text. If I type the address of this svg (from localhost, not as a local file) -- browser tries to download it instead of displaying.

I already defined mime type in IIS (for entire server -- "image/svg+xml") and restarted IIS. Same effect as before.

Question: what should I do more?

The reason I am asking this question is I am concerned about simple rollback (I already read how to find out what packages were installed). So I would like to set global (per entire system) option, that forces system to store each package before installing/updating it.

With such workflow, I could update whatever I want, and if for example the newest version of Dolphin would be worse than previous one I could simply go to directory with stored packages and install previous version instead (the previous version is either base version -- on ISO -- or version from previous update).

Is there such feature as global option to automatically store each package before install? It have to be guaranteed that no package is updated on-fly, i.e. without being stored before.

I am learning LMDE, but answer for any .deb based system would be fine -- Ubuntu, Debian, you name it.

I have one server, and two sitets -- let's say A and B.

The problem (for me) is when I shut down B site, when I try to browse:

www.b.com

instead of displaying an error, IIS redirects me (silently) to A, so in effect I get the addres:

www.a.com

So how to block this redirection (and display an error)?

Normally I would add some addresses (client IP) with deny or allow status to IIS configuration to restrict access to web pages (so from IP A.A.A.A it would be possible to get to the web page, but from B.B.B.B not). However I have a setup with SSL as well, so user can enter

http://www.home.com

or

https://www.home.com

In the first case she/he will be redirected to https. However, when user explicitly enters the second form no matter what IP it is, she/he gets access all the time. I am surprised that settings for restricting access apply only to HTTP, not HTTPS. Anyway, the question is:

How can I restrict access to web pages (for HTTPS), or how I can make existing restriction for HTTP to work for HTTPS as well?

SOLVED

The solution is stupid-simple: it is required to change the default access to "deny" (however I don't understand how/why default=allow and allowing single user makes sense and can work). With default access set to deny it works as required, however oddly I (I am allowed to access the site) cannot use HTTP, only HTTPS.
