I am trying to test the limit of a Windows Server 2008 (64 bit with 15 GB RAM) machine for maximum inbound TCP/IP connections on a port. I am using C# with async sockets.

The issue I am facing is that server stops accepting more after 90-100K TCP connections even though of resources are still free (CPU, memory). There is no fixed limit after which is stops but it is in range of 90-100K and sometime even little more than that.

Does anyone have idea about this issue?

What kind of configuration do I need for a Windows based server(s) to support 10K-20K TCP connections simultaneously. 99% of these connection will only send keep alive (but will remain active) signals at 60 seconds interval and rest 1% will be sending/receiving XML data at any given time.

Can anyone suggest me the kind on infrastructure I need to setup for above requirement?

How can I add a new item to right click menu for any file type and associate a action to this without using any third party tool. I hope it is possible using some registry hack..

We have a server machine with very good configuration on our LAN

• 4 GB of RAM
• 1 TB HDD
• Quad Processor

We can have 2 types of application running on the server

1. ASP.NET web application running under the IIS supervision
2. Standard windows application running with administraive account.

My question is how the resources are distributed between these apps. I know the windows application can utilize high resources (100% CPU, 100% RAM etc.), but I am not sure how much access does the asp.net processes does have on these resources. It is limited for them or same like the windows application? Also if there is any limitation then how can we control this.

The reason I am asking this question is from our web application we want to execute some heavy operation. What are best way to do that. Should I go for a windows services, MSMQ, or can use asp.net account?
