I am trying to redirect toast.allthesmarts.com to toast.allthesmarts.com/dayone

RewriteEngine on

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} toast.allthesmarts.com
RewriteRule  ^(.*)$ http://toast.allthesmarts.com/dayone/ [L,R,QSA]

But this gives me infinite loop. I tried this:

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST}   ^toast.allthesmarts.com$
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/dayone$
    RewriteRule  ^(.*)$ http://toast.allthesmarts.com/dayone/ [L,R,QSA]

But it doesn't work ! I have done this many times, but my head is not working today ! Please help

note: there are other websites running via same apache

case 1 works case 2 and 3 don't work. When I test with either 2 or 3; there is no output and the script never exits

What I eventually require is to read from the stdin written to by the postfix pipe

We use swatch for reading PHP logs and email them to us. Currently it emails one single line of the error, but fails to match the next few lines of stack trace.

For example: for log file like this:

Line1: PHP Fatal error: something bad happened in /php/files/whoami.php
Line2: PHP Stack trace: 
Line3: PHP     1. more info about the error above
Line4: PHP     2. still more info about the error above
Line5: PHP     3. still still more info about the error above
Line6: PHP Fatal error: something bad happened in /php/files/whoareyou.php
..

It emails line 1 and then line 6. I want to get the information about next lines in the same email as line 1. [one more problem is that the stacktrace lines can be anywhere from 0 to 6]

swatch conf line:

We have a situation where we'll be introducing a Load balancer in between the world and our pool of app servers. The DNS for our domain should point to the load balancer and it redirects traffic internally. The problem is that DNS propogation takes time and that we can't have any downtime.

Current Situation

x.y.z.123 is the APP server
DNS www.mysite.com points to x.y.z.123

Expected New Situation

x.y.z.250 is the load balancer
x.y.z.123 is the APP server
DNS www.mysite.com points to x.y.z.250

Which is the best way to do this ? I am ok with a solution having intermediate steps. Changing IP address of the APP server is not a solution.

I have a cron set to run every minute

* * * * * /usr/php /my/location/script.php 

Now, I use time function to measure script execution time. So, running

console$ time /usr/php /my/location/script.php 

outputs

real    0m0.000s
user    0m0.000s
sys     0m0.000s

But it doesn't work with cron like this:

* * * * * time /usr/php /my/location/script.php 2>&1 >> my_log_file

neither does it work on command line

console$ time /usr/php /my/location/script.php >> my_log_file

In both of the above examples, the time function actually calculates the time taken to write to my_log_file, instead of writing its output to the log file. Adding code in the script and recording STD OUTPUT is NOT AN OPTION.

I can't seem to find a way to stop / re-start proftpd. My server IP address is xx.yy.zz.ww and connecting from external devices via FTP gives me the prompt:

Connected to xx.yy.zz.ww
220 ProFTPD 1.3.1 Server (ProFTPD)

It then asks me for username.

Same thing happens when I try to connect from the same server (ftp localhost). Thus, I have established that proftp is running on my server .

Also, on my server (xx.yy.zz.ww) . I am tailing /var/log/messages and it shows me FTP session opened and closed.

I can't find how is the proftpd is working. /etc/init.d/ doesn't have proftpd ; /etc/xinetd.d/ doesn't have proftpd.

I looked at: /etc/proftpd.conf and it shows me ServerType inetd

also, when I run: ps -auxfww | grep proftp I don't get anything (except my current command)

How can I find out that proftp is running and how do I kill it / restart it ?

on Ubuntu, I have SVN setup. I have created a repository called 'siteinabox' and imported the files. On the same machine, I can checkout via file://

This command works:

Input: svn checkout  file:///svn/siteinabox

But this command doesn't work (I tried from the same machine):

Input:  svn checkout  svn://localhost/siteinabox  
Output: svn: URL 'svn://localhost/siteinabox' doesn't exist

Ultimately my aim is to access the repo from a remote machine. Currently, it gives the same error from remote machine.

I created a new user on ubuntu 10 username: codeuser

There is an existing user called "admin". Now, my problem is that I cannot directly connect to the server using the codeuser credentials. But, I can SSH in through "admin" and then su (change the user to codeuser) and it works. How do I get the shell access to the codeuser user ?

So, I start with comparing two directories:

They both are in sync Now, let me create a file in test1 and copy it to test2

[root@135759 ]# touch test1/hello4.php
[root@135759 ]# scp test1/hello4.php  test2/hello4.php

I verify that those are same:

[root@135759 test1]# md5sum test2/hello4.php

Thus, running rsync will show me 0 files. Why is the output not right ?
