I'm trying to figure out why a meeting would appear in Outlook (via Exchange) but not in Outlook Web Access. Exchange and OWA are on two different servers, but the OWA server is just a front-end server. I would think they'd both look at the same mailstore and show the same entries.
Any thoughts on how to start troubleshooting this?
We're using Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2007.
Are there any simple, but automated, ways to test that Exchange is running properly? Specifically we're looking to see if Outlook users can connect to Exchange and email traffic is flowing.
Occasionally our server has run into some virtual memory issues, and while we are trying to fix the cause of those issues it would be helpful to know immediately that our server is down.
I'd like to allow certain users access to our network via Citrix. We're using XenApp 5.0 and we will allow Internet Explorer, but want to restrict what sites they can visit. For instance, I'd like to allow browsing Intranet site A, but not sites B or C, or any external sites.
Can this sort of thing be controlled via Citrix?
We have a Citrix XenApp 5.0 server running on Windows 2008, and today we moved ISPs so our IP addresses changed. The IP addresses have propagated, the XenApp server is running, and internally we can connect to the server, choose an app, and have it streamed without issue. Externally we are only able to authenticate to the server and choose an app, but the app never launches in the client.
I'm guessing there's a hand-off between the part of XenApp that authenticates a user and shows what apps they can launch, and the part that does the app streaming, and that second part is hard-coded to use an the old ip address. Any ideas why this could be happening?
We have two Exchange 2003 servers, our primary server and a front-end server that hosts Outlook Web Access (OWA). When I open my boss' calendar via Outlook 2007 (from my Outlook client as well as hers) I see the event scheduled for 10:30 am. When I open her calendar via Outlook Web Access, the same event is scheduled for 4:30 am.
I don't understand Exchange well-enough to imagine how this is possible. If you have any ideas why this could be happening, I greatly appreciate it. I'd also very much appreciate any insight you have to how this could be possible. There must be some cached data on the front-end server that causes the calendar entry to appear at a different time, I suppose. Any insight into how Exchange manages that cache and where I could look for an issue would be very helpful.

A few users testing our Citrix XenApp service found that several (seemingly random) previously sent emails were sent out immediately after they logged into Outlook via Citrix for the first time.
The problem hasn't occurred for them since. After one user had this happen, and we scratched our heads about it thinking it was a fluke, our IT director had this same issue. I guess I'd rule out any PEBKAC issues.
I really don't know where to begin troubleshooting this problem. If you have any ideas what could have caused this, I'd appreciate you sharing them, as strange or far-fetched as they may seem :)
We're running Citrix XenApp 5.0. When we login, it appears Citrix is overwriting a network drive that is mapped via our logon script (as specified in AD). The script is definitely firing - I confirmed this by adding another drive mapping and it does appear. The drive letter is F, and is suppose to map to the user's home directory on the network, but instead it maps to the C:\users\%username% directory on the Citrix server.
I've checked our profiles in XenApp advanced configuration but they are pretty vanilla and I don't see anything that could be causing this.

I have an MSP patch file for Microsoft Dynamics that runs fine on Windows XP, but fails to run on Windows 7. The file launches (with Microsoft Installer) but then fails and gives the error: A fatal error has occurred. The Microsoft Dynamics GP installation has ended prematurely. Click Finish to exit the installation.
I've tried turning off UAC, and running the file locally, but I still get the same error. It might be a bug, of course, but if anyone has run an MSP patch file successfully in Windows 7, that would be helpful to know. Or are there any other things I might try?
I have noticed when connecting to my office via my MacBook Pro that I'm able to access both the office network and my home network, in other words split-tunneling is turned on. We have explicityly disallowed this on the hardware side.
This occurs using either the Cisco VPN client that is built-in, or one I installed after the fact. Has anyone else experienced this?
I'm wondering if this is a known issue or if there's something I'm not configuring correctly.

I want to know if there's a way to prevent an account from every being locked out no matter how many times a password is entered incorrectly. I know this is not a good security practice, but that is not the point of the question :)
Additionally, is there a way to change the number of failed attempts before the account is locked out. Note, I only want to do this for one local user account, not all of them.

It's budget time at my agency, and we're planning to move to Exchange 2010 next year. We are a small shop, so we just want to run a two-server cluster of Exchange, providing fail-over safety if one server has an issue.
We run this scenario now, however, next year we'd like to move this to a virtual environment. What VMWare software is necessary for this to work?
Currently we own a VMWare Infrastructure 3 Foundation license, and run ESXi on our VM host. I would imagine that we have all we need there. We could run two VMs with Windows 2008 Enterprise, and from the Windows and Exchange server's perspective, clustering should work the same. I think.
Can anyone else confirm, or shed more light on the topic? Thanks!
I have noticed in our network that when I want to enable users to connect to a Web Application and be automatically logged in, I need to provide them with a URL such as http://server/path/application.aspx. If I use http://server.domain.com/path/application.aspx, they are prompted to login instead.
I'd like to have both URLs automatically login the users to the Web application, but I'm missing the big picture on how this works (or rather why it doesn't work for both URLs)

I would like an easy-to-setup site to handle videos to be viewed internally by my company. YouTube is essentially the perfect solution except for its being public. I'm looking for a place where a few people can upload videos, and the system will return a page where they can watch that video in a browser.
I figure this would involve a dedicated Web server to run the Web application and process the videos. I've searched and I don't think such a system exists, but I perhaps there's one out there in its infancy that doesn't rank high on Google yet.
Essentially the site I'm looking for is what MediaWiki is to Wikis, or what StackExchange is to Q&A sites, but for videos.
I'm using BackupExec and VCB to backup a few VMs. As I understand it, the pre-job script creates a snapshot of my VMs, mounts them as virtual directories on my backup server, and then my backup exec job just backs up the local folders like normal. The problem I'm having occurs during the pre-job script and the directory for one particular server is never mounted.
When I look at the VI client and look at recent activity, I see the snapshot has begun but hasn't finished. It appears to time out after 15 minutes, and thus the server is never backed up.
I have multiple VMs being backed up this way and the others work fine. The troublesome VM has a virtual disk of 85GBs, however, another VM that does work has a virtual disk of nearly 100GBs.
I'm wondering what else about a VM could cause the snapshot to take a long time to create. Is it an issue with the VM host perhaps? The VM host is a very powerful server, and none of the VM guests are used heavily, plus the backups are run off-hours so it shouldn't be a case that the server is just overworked. Are there any logs or tools I can use to see what's slowing the snapshot down?
