I have a Hyper-V host with Failover Cluster Manager and 6 VM nodes (hosts). How can I see how much memory and CPU is allocated per node? I want to know what my available resources are to create more VMs per node.

I can't find any way to do this in Hyper-V or in the Failover Cluster Manager. The only thing I can think of is reviewing each individual VM created per node to see what resources they have and cross reference this with the associated node to make an educated guess what is remaining. Is there a better way to find out what resources (CPU, RAM) are available on my nodes similar to vSphere?

I'm trying create a way for me to be able to use the local network within my Proxmox infrastructure.

Currently, everything is running off of NAT from wlan0 and all internal machines have the same local IP address -- which is not very useful to me at all. I'm trying to fix this with ovs.

As you can see I can't attach vports 1 or 2 to any of my VMs. How does this setup work in Proxmox?

It was suggested to me to try NAT over NAT with an ovs bridge created from the Proxmox web GUI as follows:

Make a new subnet (e.g. 192.168.2.0/24) inside of Proxmox, i.e. remove "wlan0" from the "maplebridge".

All VMs should be connected with one virtual LAN, but not with wlan.

The traffic has to be routed via internal NAT in Proxmox, the NAT has to be activated when the bridge starts up (to be added in /etc/network/interfaces):

However, if I do this wouldn't the addresses from wlan0 and vmbr1 conflict since they're the same?

When I use this configuration I cannot get any connectivity in the 192.168.2.0/24 subnet cross VMs or outside. I am able to select vmbr1 for the VMs to use in their network interfaces but again they can only ping local host or their assigned IPs.

I created a Windows Domain account that works on MYDOMAIN. All computers attached to MYDOMAIN can use the credentials I have created for log on except for one.

On PROBLEMSERVER01 when I try to log in with MYDOMAIN \ myuser I get the following error (other accounts previously created are working):

User Profile Service service failed the sign-in.

User Profile cannot be loaded.

When I log on to the server and check C:\Users I do not see a folder associated with the account I created. When I check each registry's S-1-5 folders under the the ProfileImagePath entry there is no entry for my user. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947215

If I try to create the account locally on the machine it appears to work upon creation (no errors there), but if I try to log in I get the same message and no entries are added to the registry.

I have also tried copying the C:\Users\Default folder from a known good server to this one with no change in results.

I'm having trouble authentication with AD to a SAMBA share on a linux server.

Authentication appears to be working, but only halfway...

I'm on a server that shows a duplicate VG name. How can I rename one of these VolGroups to get rid of this conflict?

I have a disk on a server: /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol02 that is about 5TB.

I would like to format and partition it to make 2 500GB mount points. It doesn't even have to be in LVM. How can I take this disk out of LVM so that I can use a tool such as parted to break up the disk to the needed 500GB mount points?

I am having a problem using Rsync/SSH with a specific user for Amanda backups on a server.

I have noticed that it gives all kinds of errors on a script within /etc/profile.d and cannot log on with the SSH key. If I try to log into the user account with SSH it just displays errors and will not give a prompt. Is there a way to tell the user to not read /etc/profile.d or to set it to skip/exclude that user?

The errors it gives on log on attempt with SSH is:

/etc/profile.d/somescript.sh line 125: bind: warning: line editing not enabled

It shows this error for at least 20 different lines inside the script. I do not get this error for any other user. In addition the home directory for the Amanda backup user is in /var/lib/ not /home.

I have an OEL server connected via fibre to a NetApp SAN. How can I view the queue depth as the OS sees it?

I've been asked to add a new disk /testdrive2/main. The problem is, if I add a new one like that won't it take over and only show that drive and not show any of the other drives that essentially will become sub directories of /testdrive2/main?

I've been asked to install OEL 5.x on a server and setup a disk with a few directories (there's only one disk in the server). So I have an OEL 5.x server wtih multiple log volumes in a volume group:

After the DBAs upgrade Oracle and do other magic, they ask that I install OEL 6.x on the server while preserving the data they have in LogVol02 and LogVol03. What's the best way to install OEL 6.x without destroying this data?

I have a server that's been jumping around 100-700 %DiskTime for the past few days.

I understand this indicates an I/O bottleneck -- but what do I do from here? What do I need to check or change in regards to the disk?

Storage admin told me he put a 3TB drive on my server from the SAN and I was asked to mount it. The only information I know is that it's on LUN 1 and that the disk is 3TB.

Multipath is setup and I have QLogic drives installed. I'm not sure what to do now though... there are so many disks how can I find the right one to mount? I told the storage guy I'm seeing everything on the SAN, but I just got "I don't know Linux" from him. I'm not sure what questions to ask to figure out what disk to mount.

On the client server the NFS mount on /oracle/r12/inst/apps/database1 works as expected, but /oracle/r12/apps does not. For example if I touch test in /oracle/r12/inst/apps/database1 the file test appears on both the client and the server, this is not the case with /oracle/r12/apps.

Is it better to extend an existing partition or to create a new drive in a VMWare ESXi virtual machine? I'll be using LVM to put the drive in an existing volume group on my VM and to extend a SAN mount point. Which would be better to do and why?

The problem I'm having is that after aptitude downloads the package it throws the script into a text gui and asks the user a bunch of questions. Is there any way to skip this or send tab/enter at the appropriate times to select "OK" for all answers?

Given a MBR and the structure of MBR/partition table, how can you calculate the size and starting address of each partition?

For clarification let's say I was given this-

How do you get to that answer?

I've been given a 256k modem for a 2 day event to allow users access to the internet. There will be multiple connections (I anticipate 30+). How can I set this up so that it can support that many connections at once or what are some other ways to get around this problem?

I have to learn how to subnet by hand for the CCNA exam. And I'm having real problems doing it. I keep getting stuck.

Here's an example:

138.248.184.17/18 - IP
255.255.192.0 - Subnet Mask
192 = 1100 0000 in binary
And I know 184 in the IP address is the "octet of interest".
OK I get that far...and then I'm lost.

I know I need to set the network bits of 192(I think?) to all 0 for the network ID and then to all 1 for the broadcast ID. Problem is how do I know which part of 11000000 is network and which part is host?

Would you say Virtual LAN (VLAN) is superior to a traditional hardware switch? What are the pros and cons of using either of these technologies?
