My understanding is that Office Communicator (and OCS in general) is targeted at a non-public network such as you would find within a typical large Co.
Can it be used for instant messaging between two independent companies?
If so, what kind of setup would be required?
I have an XP SP3 machine running a service (written by me) that runs as NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE in order to access a network share. With filemon.exe I can see this service attempting to OPEN the network share but getting ACCESS DENIED.
The network share is a folder on a Windows Server 2003 SP1 machine, and this folder has share permission = Everyone (read) and NTFS permission = Domain Computers (read + execute + list folder contents). It has no other permissions explicitly granted, but inherits default permissions from C:\. I have verified that the XP machine is a member of Domain Computers.
On the machine sharing the folder I can see Successful Network Logon events from the XP machine.
On the XP machine I see only ACCESS DENIED when my service tries OPEN specific files on that folder.
It feels like I'm missing some vital step but I appear to have run out of SysAdmin clues.
I have a Windows service A that depends on service B.
According to this Microsoft KB article I can add a registry key to tell Windows to wait until B starts before starting A.
Can I therefore expect service A to be shut down before B when I shut down Windows?
I've been using VMWare to simulate a simple LAN (a DC and several workstations hosted on a single machine). The LAN will be used as a test environment for software that is currently in development.
Although the current requirement is simply to provide a virtual LAN, it would be ideal if we could also simulate various problems that might be encountered in the wild.
I've used VMWare simply because I don't know of any alternatives.
Can you recommend alternatives?
