When Windows Update promets the user to reboot (or to "show the message again in 10 minutes, 4 hours") i would like that for some users this is either not displayed (best solution) or if the user by mistake clicks on "reboot" at least reboot is not done (good solution).
Scenario is: Windows 2008 server with users accessin in RDP to run client server applications from remote.
I have a 50GB SQL Server 2008R2 database backup.
I'd like to restore only the "tables" and not the filestream data (the blobs saved as filestream).
This is because I fon't have 100GB free (50 needed to copy the file on the server, 50 to restore the db).
Is there a switch for the restore command to avoid restoring filestream blobs?

I've been told that I should see also "Windows AUtenthication" in that list.
In "modules" for the same website I see "Windows Authentication", with code "System.Web.Secuitiry.WindowsAuthenticationModule", Module type is "Managed",and Type is "Inherited".

I logged in in db ad sa (super admin).
I want to remove a publication made using management studio wizard
(right click on Replication/Local Publications/ New publication)
After trying to delete I have error 15517.
I feel that th subscription i made (it was just a test to explore the replication feature) is slowing down my production db (why did i test on production db i don't know - i wanted to have a local subscription to it from my machine)
Anyway is there a way to delete this publication or at least "freeze" it even if i have thie 15517 error?

From one windows 7 machine I cannot connect anymore to any sql server instance that is in LAN and in same domain of this particular machine. I cannot connect from Management Studio, but also from any client server application.
I use sql serer autentication and this has always worked until a few days ago I installed some vpn software. Now I uninstalled it anyway the problem persisted.
I tried to do from the command prompt ipconfig /fulshdns (I did "Run as administrator") but it didn't help.
What can it be? Is there a place where I can manually check?
I have an internal intranet application as a exe file (win32, written in Delphi).
I regularly update it with new features and patches.
Many people are accessing the same exe (using it with remote desktop).
In Windows Server 2003 to replace the file I just needed to:
rename the old file, copy the new file.
This is not possible in 2008 anymore since because of same caching the new file doesn't work. It runs but then there are problems (probably linked to the way Delphi uses the exe resources). The only way is to close all the users sessions and replace the file.
May you suggest a method that works? Simple if possible? Is it possible to disable this caching? Or any other trick that allows me to replace a file (without changing the full path).
I know that sql server express has not a user limit, and every application has a different way to load/stress the server.
But let's take "a typical accounting software", where users input some record, retrieve some data and from time to time they make some custom big queries.
May someone share its own experience and tell me which is the limit of users that can realistically use a sql server express instance in this scenario?

DId anyone tried this and can share the experience? Is there somewhere an instructino to follow?
My goal is to enable OSX clients to run a win32 application that connects to SQL Server (using MDAC).
I am not concerned about licenses, i will sell the software + a windows license per every mac client, now my goal is to be able to install on mac not to lose opportunities.
I know: it would be better to have a mac client, it would be better to have a web application, it would be better...

Sql Server Express has the following major hardware limitations that has a consequence on performance:
1 CPU
1GB of memory
My question is: if on a multicore machine many instances of sql server express are running, which processor does each instance use?
Example: Dual Core - 4 Sql server express instances (SS1, SS2, SS3, SS4)
what happens?
SS1 - Core1
SS2 - Core2
SS3 - Core1
SS4 - Core2
?
Or all the instances use the same cpu (Core1)?
If not, how does the Sql Server Express instance choose the Core to use?
I am considering moving all my customers' DBs to SQL Azure. I am using a single FILESTREAM field to store files in blobs (not for performance on large blobs), but simply because I am using the Express Edition and so I use Filestream as a way not to hit the Express DB size limit).
I have this table, the DOCUMENT field contains the filestream data and the GUID field is needed for filestream implementation:

One technique I have in mind is simply:
1) renaming the DOCUMENT field to DOCUMENT_TEMP
2) creating a new DOCUMENT (not FILESTREAM) varbinary(max) field
3) copy and delete from DOCUMENT_TEMP to DOCUMENT one by one
4) altering the table to remove filestream [THIS IS NOT CLEAR TO ME]

I am trying to connect with a customer by creating a VPN with Teamveiwer (I have version 4).
I installed at both ends the von support, I can correctly setup the connection (I can ping succesfully).
When I open management studio to connect to the DB on the remote server it doesn't work.
Team viewer assigned 7.91.40.46 as ip of customer. The sql server instance I am trying to connect to is SQLEXPRESS08.
I tried to connect to 7.91.40.46\SQLEXPRESS08 and SERVERNAME\SQLEXPRESS08 but I cannot see the server.
What am I missing?

I am using XP Unlimited to allow users do Remote Desktop on a Windows 7 machine.
The users run on remote desktop a native win32 exe Application (built with Delphi).
When I need to update the exe file and all users log off from remote desktop everything works fine, but when I have to update the exe file "live" when some users are using it I have a bad behaviour:
somehow the exe is cached and I have Access Violation errors.
To replace live I rename the old exe and I copy the new one in the folder.
Does this problem tell you something? Can it be that the problem I am facing is because I am using a non server OS (Windows 7 instead of win 2k8)? Could you suggest a solution or explain me the problem.
