We're moving a Tomcat from a physical server to one virtual Server. In the physical, and because the high IOps for the temp folder (¡developers!) we bought a Ramdisk software.
My question is... Will a ramdisk software work in a vmware virtual machine? Is there better options? Thanks!
I'am speaking of 'direction' in this questions but maybe it isn't the best word. Please correct me if I'm wrong after the full question.
We have 2 file servers, one of them is the active one, and the other is the passive (or backup).
We mainly sync them in after hours, when nobody is working, but time to time, we need to sync them while the users are working.
In that case, and using robocopy, we have two options:
What of this two options will in your opinion impact less on the performance of the active file server?
My opinion is that launching from the passive will impact less on the performance because of the slowness of SMB protocol... Am I correct?
We have a little problem here.
We have a share with the backup of all the server's offices, Its a really big share with more than 8.000.000 files.
Our users usually give long names to the folders they create, and then make subfolders (long too) and more subfolders... and more suboflders....
We have a new share with more capacity, and with a simpe robocopy bat we copied all the files and folders (some give problems, but we manually copied them)
But the problem is deleting them. del command didnt work well when so long paths, neirder rmdir... I'm tried some commanders, but no luck.
Can u recommend me any tool that can delete recursively or able to delete 255+ paths?
Edited: The SO on background of the share it's NetApp OS. But I can access it from Windows Servers. 2000 and 2003

Not perfect solution but that works
Here's the script on Windows Scripting I do to solve the problem. It isn't perfect but if anyone has the same problem can use it.

What this script do, recursively, is changing a very long path like \bla...\bla...\bla...\bla... to a much more shorter \1\2\1\2\ and after the renaming in the end of each recursion, it deletes the object folder (who's empty, btw).
It worker extremely well for me, even so we found full paths near 200 chars (imagine with before the script).

Like all of you know, (and me) there are a lot of Monitoring software (Open Source or not), I'm talking about Nagios, Hyperic, OpenNMs, Tivoly, Microsoft...
Like all of you know, best way to extract info of a Tomcat server is by a correctly secured JMX bean.
Well, My problem is double:
First: The default polling time of the monitoring servers is way too long. A Five minutes pull can not detect a problem or a peak of use, even a restart.
The solution to this is as simple as reduce the polling time to 5 seconds (or less).
This will probably saturate the server, But that's easy to solve. (More Iron)
Anyway, this polling time leads us to the 2º Problem
Second:
If i pull the JMx counter in a 5 second interval, and I get about 5 counters for each instance of tomcat, and we have more than 15 servers...
That's 375 samples per 5 seconds. 4500 samples per minute. Yes. The Database will grow very fast.
Reason many samples:
I dont really need each sample, but the average of them in a given time period (10 mins). But if a pull the counter in a 10 minute interval, I will loose a lot of info, that I need for detecting problems, monthly graphics of use...
Question:
So, the question is simple. Is there any software that can pull frecuently but stores only the average of the samples in a given period?
Manual Workaround
Of course, There's "manual" options to this problem... maybe daily tasks on the DB that calculate the average of the table in a period...
Or a perl-based script that makes the iteration... and then stores it in the DB
But before to that programming, I'm looking in the net and asking.

I ask this question after a search in the site, there's many JMX questions but I think no one with a NetIq involved.
In the documentation of NetIq, There's no "module" to check JMX, but I have seen that u can make "custom" modules and "custom" scripts, in Perl and VbScript.
The question is if anyone with more experience than me on NetIq, has made any custom script or module to check JMX.
I look on technet too, for a JMX Api for Windos Shell or Powershell with no luck.
Of course, JMX is much more powerfull, but what I really need is to "monitor" some values inside NetIq, because we cant install Nagios, Cacti, Hyperic or any other monitor software but NetIq.

We have issued a new certificate this month, and is giving us some problemas. According to thawte, they migrated to 2048 the root, but we can't get the point to configure those new certificates in apache 2.2 Thwate Root Migration
¿Any advice or link that can help us on importing those root to the thrust of apache and implement the new certifcicate? Thanks
