Strangely, on one of our server, pg_dumpall, when executed by cron, only dumps "postgres" database, instead of all databases.

But when executing it from command line, it works.

I suspect it must be due to some environment variable, but I don't know where it may come from.

Of course I can provide more information if needed, but I don't know what to give more, because I don't exactly know the source of this strange problem ?

Our users and groups LDAP configuration is working.

Our server is using LDAP to store users and groups.

# /etc/nsswitch.conf :
passwd:         compat ldap
group:          compat ldap
shadow:         compat ldap

But today we added a new group in LDAP, with 3 users, and then, added other users. The 3 users are in the group but not the others.

We can see this by using the "groups " : more precisely, "getent group GROUPNAME" shows the user in the group while "groups " does not show the group for that user... ?!

Therefore I am trying to understand :

• Is there some kind of cache for groups - LDAP list ?
• Or is it possible for the synchronization to fail, if yes how to manually re-launch it ?

Sorry not to be more precise in my question, but I really don't see where to start...

Under a Windows Server 2012 R2, I see less than 2 days of Task Scheduler logs ! To be honest that's already 17'295 entries, maybe is it the maximum capacity ?

Therefore my question : is the problem due to display options, or is the server keeping so little logs ? In the second case, how to extend logging capacities ?

To view the logs I go to Event viewer > Apps and services > Microsoft > Windows > Task Scheduler > Operational

Any help would be appreciated.

The service "samba" is not starting at boot on this standard Debian 7.7 installation while it should.

Based on the chkconfig man page, I did this, but it still doesn't start at boot :

chkconfig samba 2345

If I compare to the ssh services it looks good :

chkconfig --list|grep "ssh\|samba "
samba                     0:off  1:off  2:on   3:on   4:on   5:on   6:off
ssh                       0:off  1:off  2:on   3:on   4:on   5:on   6:off

But something else looks strange (all services are "on", only samba is "2345") ?

But this is clearly worse :

I want to mount an USB drive to VMWare ESXi 5.5 host.

The USB drive is visible with lsusb : Bus 01 Device 03: ID 154b:0095 PNY

But not under /vmfs.

Under /dev/disks/ I see many entries, but dunno if one of those is my USB disk:

I tried dozens of commands, including:

• chkconfig usbarbitrator off
• esxcli storage core device list
• esxcfg-rescan
• esxcli storage vmfs extent list

And I have read approximately 200 web pages and KBs, but I was not able to find the way to identify the right disk to be able to format it.

Somewhere in dmesg I saw this:

If yes can I mount it somehow, or should I format it?

I tried hundreds of forums and posts, but nothing seem to help!

I have vSphere ESXi 5.5. and when starting ESXi the first time it created and formatted a storage automatically.

For some reason I removed it and now I cannot get my disks/storage back! No problem if I need to reformat but even that is impossible !

I tried to reuse it, to format it, whatever possible, but nothing is working:

The only message I get is : Error: Read-only file system during write on /dev/disks/naa.(...) !

We have perfectly working roaming profiles on Samba 3.3.10 (SuSE) with Windows 7 clients. We configured our new server with same domain name, Samba 4.1.11 (Debian).

On the new server, for newly created profiles, it works perfectly, we can login, logout, profiles are created and saved. But if we want to copy an existing profile from current server to the new one, it's impossible to login, we get the following error : "Group policy client service failed. The logon access is denied".

The rights on the files are correct on the server, but we are wondering if some data in the profile has to be changed ? For example in the registry or any other file...

The only warning we have in Windows is a "Search" that cannot access "csc:" with SID. This is a Windows Search registry.

Update : We tried to "mount" the user registry Hive on another computer, replaced all the user old SID by the new one, and even changed the rights on the registry. Then we saved it in the profile. Same problem.

Otherwise said, in addition to copying the profiles files to the new server, what should we do to have the old profiles load correctly ?

Feel free to ask for more details that you could find useful to understand/solve this problem that should arise for any roaming profiles migration, I suppose ?

Strangely I have a virtual machine that keeps constantly freezing for some seconds or minutes.

On the OS side, the CPU and memory used are quite low. On VMWare side, it's the same, the machine never uses more than 50% CPU. All other machines on the same VMWare ESXi server are running perfectly fine.

After hours of trying to figure out what could be the cause of this problem I decided to ask if anyone had an idea ? Of course I also searched intensively the web, and a colleague was also unable to find any hint.

What's difficult is that it can be anything, either on Windows, either on VMware site, as I don't see any graphic or number showing any problem.

I read all sudo posts on serverfault, but I still cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. Normally I finally find the solution but not this time :

I want apache user to be able to execute this command as user "hremotessh" :

sudo /home/hremotessh/scripts/redirect.sh 8892 8893

Therefore I added this in visudo :

apache ALL=(hremotessh) NOPASSWD: /home/hremotessh/scripts/redirect.sh

But sudo is still asking the password ?

sudo /home/hremotessh/scripts/redirect.sh
[sudo] password for apache:

I tried this, but not better :

sudo -u hremotessh /home/hremotessh/scripts/redirect.sh
hremotessh is not in the sudoers file.  This incident will be reported.

It looks strange, but after changing the "root" password I cannot login anymore. I followed exactly the process according to Vsphere 5.5 reset root and I used copy-and-paste for the password but strangely it always says invalid password ?

This is what I tried but it doesn't work :

1. Connect with SSH
2. # /etc/init.d/usbarbitrator stop

3. # fdisk -l |grep Disk

7. Also tried with /dev/disks/mpx.vmhba40:C0:T0:L0:4, with /mnt/usb/, always the same error message.

8. Then I checked # ls -l /vmfs/volumes, but it wasn't there either

The version of ESXi is 4.1... USB Key is FAT32 as far as I know.

Any help or advice would be appreciated !

By "it", I mean that one single apache process eats 5 Gigabyte of memory ?!

Does anyone has an idea about what could be the cause of this ?

It's strange but after filesystem damage some folders/directories are now shown as files instead of directories ?

I would be very grateful if someone was able to help me to correct the filesystem and/or try to find where the files are, now ?

I want to format a partition under FreeBSD and change it to UFS filesystem. I searched the web but even the "fdisk" man page is not clear at all. Any help would be clearly appreciated !
