I have an Ubuntu 10.04 LTS server running production and I'd like to create a development and staging server. One option is to install everything the way it's installed on production, but this will take a lot of time to make it an exact mirror of production. Is there a way to "clone" the entire OS while it's running? I'd like to create the dev and staging server in VMWare.

I've been following this guide which uses this default.vcl. However, when starting Varnish I get the following error:

 * Starting HTTP accelerator                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           [fail] 
storage_malloc: max size 1024 MB.
Message from VCC-compiler:
Expected '(' got ';'

VCL compilation failed

Which means that there is something wrong with purge here:

sub vcl_hit {
        if (req.request == "PURGE") {
                purge;

        }
}

I don't see anything wrong, can someone explain?

I've been able to set up TomatoUSB firmware with Ipredator via PPTP, the configuration is as follows:

However, I don't want to use Ipredator PPTP VPN for every machine on my network, how to only use PPTP VPN for one MAC/IP?

The title must sound strange but I'm trying to achieve the following:

SVN repo location: /home/flx/svn/flxdev SVN repo "flxdev" structure:

 + Project1
 ++ files
 + Project2
 + Project3
 + Project4

I'm trying to set up a post-commit hook that automatically checks out on the other end when I do a commit.

The post-commit doc explicitly lists the following:

# POST-COMMIT HOOK

# The post-commit hook is invoked after a commit.  Subversion runs
# this hook by invoking a program (script, executable, binary, etc.)
# named 'post-commit' (for which this file is a template) with the
# following ordered arguments:

So I made the following command to test:

REPOS="$1"
REV="$2"
echo "Updated project $REPOS to $REV"

However when I edit files in Project1 for example, this outputs "Updated project /home/flx/svn/flxdev to 1016"

I'd like this to be: "Updated project Project1 to 1016"

Having this variable allows me to specify to do different actions per project post-commit. How can I specify the project parameter?

Alice has sudo rights. Bob does not (this is not changeable), but does know the password to Alice's account.

If Bob wants to perform administrative commands he must:

  1. su alice
  2. fill in Alice's password for su
  3. sudo whoami
  4. fill in Alice's sudo password
  5. command gets executed with super user rights

To shorten this I use: su -m alice -c 'sudo whoami'.

However, I want to build an alias command that replaces with this tedious command with just the regular sudo command.

So I made this: alias sudo="su -m alice -c 'sudo $@'".

2 caveats:

  • It doesn't work
  • It always asks for Alice's su password, the sudo password it does remember

How can I do this better?
