I'm using Amazon Web Service's Cloud Watch tool to monitor server performance. Whenever I reopen our various Dashboards the time period is always set to the last 3 hours. For some dashboards this is a good default but for others, I'd like it to be a different time period. Changing the time period doesn't seem to save any attribute to the URL.
Is it possible to set the default time period for an AWS CloudWatch dashboard?
I have several computers that are running applications. These computers are on the internet, in that they can connect out to the general internet over port 80. These computers have dynamic IP addresses assigned via DHCP. These computers are installed in an environment where I have almost no control over the network. I would like to install run Performance Co-pilot (PCP) running on each computer to record system and application metrics.
Can PCP phone-home from the described environment to a central monitoring system where I can aggregate the data for visualization and analysis? The central monitoring system can be at a static IP address and I have total control over this network environment. However, it isn't possible for the server to reach out to the client computers because of their dynamic IP addresses. Statistics for each client machine could be identified by a unique client variable, or MAC address, just not by IP address or DNS entry.
Is this something that should be done with a different tool? (Zabbix, Sensu)
TLDR: Can I push PCP performance stats from clients, to a server, or does the server have to request the PCP stats from a static IP or DNS entry?
I am trying to run the zabbix-agent (1.8.1) on boot on Ubuntu (lucid 10.04).
Zabbix is installed just fine, and it manually starts just fine with /etc/init.d/zabbix-agent start
However it doesn't start on boot, because when I run:
sudo update-rc.d zabbix-agent default
I get:
update-rc.d: warning: zabbix-agent start runlevel arguments (none) do not match LSB Default-Start values (2 3 4 5)
update-rc.d: warning: zabbix-agent stop runlevel arguments (none) do not match LSB Default-Stop values (0 1 6)
After googling around I found some cryptic information about this being a possible bug with Zabbix's startup scripts, but I can't find a workaround. I'm trying to understand how the update-rc.d system works, but I'm not getting very far.
How can I modify this setup to start the zabbix-agent on startup?
I am looking for an online list of the standard packages available for CentOS Linux.
I know that if I had a CentOs system running, I could use yum to list packages. However, I am trying to evaluate what roadblocks we will run into, when we switch our webservers from Ubuntu to CentOS, and I don't yet have a CentOS setup.
I've searched and searched, but all I can find are explanations of how to manage packages once you actually have a CentOS system setup. Any website recommendations would be appreciated.
Ctrl+r is a great little tool for searching your .bash_history for previously run commands.
However, when I use it in my OS X Terminal.app I see weird behavior, and I was wondering if anyone else sees the same thing or knows how to fix it.
findfind . -exec grep -q "hello world" '{}' \; -print-q "blog_posts_by" '{}' \; -print, where the whole command is there, and I can use the cursor keys to move around on the line, but not all of it is printed. There is a disconnect between what is shown on the line and what the terminal actually thinks I am editing.Does anyone have a clue why this might happen? It's not an easy phenomenon to search the webs for.
I have a gitosis system that seems to be working correctly except for a common problem we run into where I can't distingush permissions between two users who have the same username, but different hosts.
For example:
[email protected] 's SSH key is in the key folder.
And so is [email protected] 's SSH is also in the key folder.
These two jsmith's are two different people on two different computers. However, when I configure them in the gitosis.conf file with the usernames jsmith@computer or jsmith@machine, it seems like each user just gets the same permission.
Can gitosis not distinguish the full username (name and host)? If not, how do I deal with multiple users accessing our system with common usernames? Thanks for any help.
