I'm trying to mount a WebDAV share as a drive on Windows 8. I've tried setting up WebDAV server on both Windows 2012 and Debian Linux, but both yield the same error when attempting to mount from client.

I have verified that the Linux WebDAV works through cadaver-command, it authenticates successfully with the credentials given and I am able to download files. I can also use a browser to access it successfully from client using these credentials. So WebDAV server seems to work.

Windows 8 client however gives me this error:

C:\>net use * http://10.0.0.5/webdav/
System error 67 has occurred.

The network name cannot be found.

I get the same error if I try to mount using Windows Explorer. "/webdav/" is the subdirectory I have configured for WebDAV access on the server.

There is no firewall blocking access to server. As I mentioned I am able to connect using browser, so network is not the issue.

Are there any additional steps required to get this working and/or am I doing something wrong?

I'm also able to access WebDAV using .Net and SharpBox.

Is it possible to have multiple Reporting Services databases in one MSSQL instance?

I have a MSSQL 2008 R2 with RS set to SharePoint Integrated Mode. This RS is in use and can't be changed. I do however need a RS in native mode for the TFS installation to be able to use it.

Am I required to set up a new instance of MSSQL?
Bonus question: If so, is that permitted under the MS licensing scheme or is it an additional cost?

I have a file share (Windows, SMB, AD) that requires authentication to access. Accessing it manually in Windows Explorer (\\ip\share) will query me for user/pass. That is fine. The client computer accessing the server share is not in the same domain as the server, and it is not an option to change that.

However using this from other users (such as IIS AppDomain user) will not work. This problem is the same as for shared folders (say image upload folder) in IIS. (Note: I need local access, it is not enough to have IIS mapped virtual folder.)

Is there any way to globally mount a share in Windows? Making it accessible for all users. Or is there any other approach to the problem?

Is there any webinterface for administrating MSSQL similar to phpMyAdmin (for MySQL)?

I want a self-service setup where developers can create a database through webinterface and upload/download backups of the database without local access.

I've considered phpMSAdmin, but it hasn't had a release since 2006 so I'm not sure its worth the effort of setting it up. If there is something else (free or not-so-free) that would be great.

My question is similar to this one posted 2 years ago, but no good webinterface was found back then. SQL Web Data Administrator seems interesting, but it lacks a few features - most notably creating new databases (also, not updated since 2007).

I have a remote MSSQL server meant to centralize SQL for development projects. I hand out DB's and access to developers as they need it. I do not want to give them access to filesystem in any way (would require RDP access or opening several firewalls).

My question is how can the developers easily copy their local DB to the remote DB as they transit from local databases to remote shared database?

For reference this is how you would do it in MySQL:

I have set up two DS4100 SAN linked with fiberchannel. I've set up multiple RAID configurations: RAID10 spanning 4 disks in each SAN, a few RAID5's. (hardware RAID handled by DS4100)

I'm running 32-bit Windows 2008 Datacenter edition. I've connected server to SAN through fibre channel. I've disabled "write caching with mirroring".

Now whatever I do I can't seem to get more than 40MB/s performance out of the SAN storage. I would expect more of 4 striped disks (RAID10, 8 total) or 6 disks in RAID5.

What performance can I expect from 6x400GB SATA-disks in RAID5?
Any idea what I can check to find why it is so slow?

Anyone know if Windows 7 SP1 RDP to Windows 7 SP1 will benefit from enabling RemoteFX?
(Not using HyperV at all.)

I have recently installed a IBM x45 with two DS4100 (SAN) and due to space constraints it is generating too much noise in adjacent rooms.

Are there any good ways to isolate the noise from servers? There doesn't seem to be much vibration, but the majority of the sounds seems to be from the fans and disks.

Does anyone have experience with putting sound absorbing materials in server rooms/closets? I'm thinking about covering the surroundings in rubber or something.

I just got an old IBM x445 with 4xXeon and 32GB RAM home. I happily put in Win2008R2 DVD but got a bit surprised when it said the system only has 32-bit CPU. A quick Google confirms that.

What does a 32-bit system use more than 3-4GB RAM for? Can the OS run 10 4GB processes? Or does the process need to have explicit PAE support?
What can I do with this box? I want to host virtual servers on it. Will it work to run 32-bit Win2008 Datacenter and allocate 4GB to each virtual server?

How can I change the UUID of a VHD-file?

My problem is that VirtualBox won't accept the VHD-file if it has already been added. But I am moving VHD disks between work/home and cloning them (and keeping them as VHD, not VDI) "at random".

The export/import feature won't work for me because 1) it changes the file to VDI and 2) it takes too damn long, can't wait for it to export+import a 60GB disk every morning/afternoon when I switch locations.

It is important to keep it as VHD so its compatible with HyperV.

I managed to run the CLEAN command in DISKPART on the wrong disk (disk 1 instead of disk 3 in LIST DISK). Now it shows up as a "Healthy (Primary Partition)". If I assign a drive letter to the partition Windows just tells me its not formatted.

I'm guessing the damage is not too great. I could use R-Studio to recover the MFT-tables and get some files out. But its not optimal, will produce some false data and will take a long time. I'd like to just recover the drive and get on with my day.

Anyone have a clue how? Can I copy some initial bytes from a working NTFS-partiton? For example using dd if=/dev/hda1 of=/dev/hda2 bs=512 count=1 in Linux.

Exactly what did CLEANdo to my partition? I know disk layouts/NTFS very well so more details = good. I don't mind HEX-editing the bootsector.

Removes any and all partition or volume formatting from the disk with focus. On master boot record (MBR) disks, only the MBR partitioning information and hidden sector information are overwritten. On GUID partition table (GPT) disks, the GPT partitioning information, including the Protective MBR, is overwritten; there is no hidden sector information.

I need to enable an existing firewall rule (or make a new one) on all the computers in a Active Directory domain. What is the best/easiest way to do this?

EDIT: The computers are running Windows Vista default firewall. Active Directory is run by Windows 2008 AD controllers.

I have a simple Hyper-V setup with a few guest os running. The host has 1 physical network adapter with a static IP assigned to it. The guests have network adapters assigned to "Internet" (Hyper-V network) which is bound to the physical host network adapter (Hyper-V "External" connection type).

I am not able to communicate (ping or anything else) between guests and host. I've checked firewall and it seems fine (ports open from anywhere still don't work). I'm trying to communicate with the hosts IP assigned to the same physical interface that the guests are sharing. Guests can communicate between them just fine.

I can't seem to find any relevant setting (I might just be missing it).

So my questions: How do I fix it so host and guests can communicate?
