Currently working on a memory limited ubuntu box and wondering what SQL server to use?
I installed MySQL and it ate up A LOT of memory (almost all of it) but was able to reduce it a little bit.
Someone suggested Percona and someone else suggested SQLite. Wondering what server gives low memory usage with the basic SQL features?
I am wondering about a certain scenario.
User on some machine runs a command. This unpacks XEN and boots up domain 0. Domain 0 boots up 3 other domains that are setup in this way.
When the servers are up, the client machine runs a script that does some benchmarking on the performance of the webserver.
When the benchmarking is done, the results are output and the XEN cleans up after himself (as if he was never there)
What I am wondering if this is possible and what gotchas I need to keep in mind about the XEN setup?
There is one client machine that has processing issues. I can't find driver updates that look like they fix this.
And we have other machines with similar software setups that are working fine. (Windows XP SP3)
I can duplicate the issue by doing the following. Open any program that hasn't been opened in a while (so it's not in memory anywhere, for example Photoshop)
What happens is that all other processing on the machine slows to a crawl. And the application takes a long time to open. (same with the bootup time for the machine, it's abnormally long)
And working with the application is very unresponsive for a few minutes.
The funny thing is that you can listen to the computer process when you have music on (any program) since the music stops and stutters in line with the processing the computer is doing.
We have Sophos as the virus scanner and we have tried defragging the machine with jkdefrag, cleaning up and temp files, deleting any unused programs and dust cleaning the computer.
I don't wanna format just yet if it's something known.
Update:
Turning off the Sophos services did nothing.
I tried perfmon and what happens is I get spikes on Pages/sec and Disk queue length where disc queue length stays well over 100% for the whole time and Pages/sec goes well over that.
I'm going to look at the Dell diagnostics next.
Not going into specifics on the specs since I know there is no real answer for this. But I've been doing load testing today with the ab command in apache.
And got to the number of 70 requests per second (1000 requests with 100 concurrent users), on a page that is loading from 4 different DB tables, and doing some manipulation with the data. So it's a fairly heavy page.
The server isn't used for anything else for now and the load on it is just me, since it's in development. But the application will be used daily by many users.
But is this enough? Or should I even worry (just as long as it's over X requests a second)
I'm thinking that I shouldn't worry but I'd like some tips on this.
The case of the 500-mile email is a pretty odd case with a fun fix. Can you share other stories where the actual fault was something unexpected.
Perhaps it can help others who have some strange problem that they just can't figure out.
