We use Apple's Profile Manager MDM. Occasionally a user will forget the passcode to unlock their iPad. We should be able to user Profile Manager to clear their passcode. However, I've noticed that "Class Passcode" tasks never seem to complete even though the iPad has a WiFi connection.

So what I'd like to know is how the "Clear Passcode" command gets to the iPad. Is it from our local server (LAN)? Or is it from Apples push notification servers (WAN)?

Why does it matter? We use the CyberHound(NetBox Blue) firewall/proxy. Access to the internet goes through a transparent proxy, and requires frequent authentication through a captive portal. If the message comes from Apple's servers then I would need to setup an authentication bypass rule, as messages wont get through until the iPad is authenticated and a locked iPad will never show the captive portal login page.

We have recently rolled out 100 laptops running Windows 8.1, some of our users are having a problem with printers being offline. It appears to happen when they take the laptop home to no WiFi and then return to work and are reconnected to the WiFi. Restarting the print spooler doesn't always fix the issue, nor does restarting the pc. It only seems to affect the users who don't connect to a network at home.

To replicate the problem:

  1. I took one of the problem laptops.
  2. confirmed that printing was working.
  3. Shut it down.
  4. Walked a block off campus until I was well out of WiFi range.
  5. Started the laptop, and logged in as the owner.
  6. Shut it down again.
  7. Walked back onto our campus.
  8. Started the laptop again and relogged in as the owner.
  9. Network printers were now offline.
  10. The Event Log didn't show any thing obvious.
  11. Restarting the spooler didn't bring them back online. Nor did restarting the whole pc.
  12. After several further restarts the printers came back online.

Any idea?

At the school I work at we currently give every user a mapped drive to their home folder on the file server, all controlled through Active Directory. We also have a heap of users using iPads, which can't easily get to their home folder on the file server. If they use Onedrive they can access those documents anywhere and even edit them through the Office Web Apps.

Is it possible to setup Onedrive on the server to synchronise their home folder (or a sub folder), so that they have the speed benefit of a local server and the availability of a cloud server?
