I am trying to remove couchdb in my Ubuntu Server ( 10.04 ) and I received the following error:

dpkg: error processing couchdb (--purge):
 Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should
 reinstall it before attempting a removal.
Errors were encountered while processing:
 couchdb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

How do i fix this?

I have tried the following commands:

sudo apt-get remove couchdb
sudo apt-get purge couchdb
sudo aptitude remove couchdb

but to no avail...

May I know how do I start a Tornado app on a production server ( ubuntu 10.04 ) and access it on a domain name without the port number in the domain name?

Here's the background information

The location of my tornado app: /srv/www/domain1.com/public_html/src .

The directory structure of src/ is:

src/
   static/
   templates/
   app.py

I intend to host multiple Tornado apps on my server so I am making use of the /etc/nginx/sites-enable and /etc/nginx/sites-available feature.

In my /etc/nginx/sites-available folder, i created a domain1.com.conf file:

server {
    listen 80;
    server_name http://www.domain1.com;
    root /srv/www/domain1.com/public_html/src/static;


    location / {

        try_files $uri @tornado;
    }

    location @tornado {

        proxy_set_header Host $host;
        proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr;
        proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for;
        proxy_pass       http://127.0.0.1:8888;
    }
}

After which I made a symbolic link to /etc/nginx/sites-enabled. Than i restarted nginx.

I didnt change the default nginx config file.

After starting tornado app by running python app.py , I can access my app at http://www.domain1.com:8888 If i type attempt to access it at http://www.domain1.com , then I'll see a "Welcome to Nginx" message.

Is there are way I can access my app at http://www.domain1.com/ ?

I was wondering what are the steps do i need to perform for installing couchdb using the package from http://www.couch.io/get#ubuntu ?

I understand that i need to run

sudo chmod a+x name-of-file.bin

and than

sudo ./name-of-file.bin

to install it.

But after doing the above steps, what do i need to do to start couchdb version 1.0.1?

I've previously installed couchdb using

sudo aptitude install couchdb

, but this gives me version 0.10.0.

I've tried start couchdb ( version 1.01) by going to /opt/couchdb-1.0.1/bin to start couch, but after checking , couchdb's version is still 0.10.0.

SO how do i install and start running couchdb ( version 1.0.1 )?

I have done multiple installs of CouchDB using sudo aptitude install couchdb sudo ap-get install couchdb

and more recently based on the instructions found at L http://wiki.apache.org/couchdb/Installing_on_Ubuntu

May I know how do I uninstall or remove all the above installations?

I've tried running the following commands:

but received the following errors:

May I know how do i fix this?

ON issuing the command : dpkg -l | grep couchdb I received the following response:

iF  couchdb-bin                      0.10.0-1ubuntu2                            RESTful document oriented database, programs

How do i uninstall CouchDB ? I think there's some file corruption?
