I have Hyper-V hosts with both Win Server 2008 R2 and Win Server 2012. These hosts are not connected on the internet and do get security patches installed every month.
How do I know if the integration services present on a Hyper-v host are the latest?
How do I update the integration services to the latest version if I ever found that the integration services on a particular hyper-v host are not the latest ?
We have a client where we have built new servers including DC,DNS servers, lets call it, 'new.com'. These servers are activated using the KMS host in our PROD domain 'main.com'.
1) Would OS license fail/deactivate if no contact is made to the KMS host atleast once in every 180 days ? 2) Would I need to connect each server in new.com atleast once every 180 days, to the KMS host in 'main.com' to renew the license ? If yes, is there any other/easier way to make sure the licenses on servers in 'new.com' do not get deactivated?
We found in Hyper-V Manager of one of the host servers, that one of the VMs in Win 2008R2 cluster shows "higher" Memory Demand than the Max Dynamic RAM allocated to the VM (attached is the screenshot).
Is this possible?
All the documentation provided by Microsoft insist that a VM cannot access more memory than the Max RAM. Can anyone explain how this is possible ?
We have a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise server with NPS role installed in it. (We dont use NAP). Is there any way, we can save all the event logs in------
Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Server Roles -> "Network Policy and Access Services".
I would prefer to do this using Windows PowerShell, and schedule this to save logs to a *.evt(x) file every 7 days.
The issue I see is I cant find any .evt file named as "Network Policy and Access Services", seems this is a custom made when we view it in the Event Viewer.
Any ideas?
Are there any tools, or options (from VSphere client) that I can try to find the memory and disk performance of an ESXi5 host and the VMs hosted on it ?
We have a single virtual machine hosted on a VMware ESXi5 host. How best can the resources be allocated to maximize the performance of the VM. Our ESXi5 host has 4 GB RAM with two quad core processors. The VM does have a processor intensive load. ( I understand there is no contention of resources for the processor, I just need to know how much RAM can I reserve for the host machine).
How can I check if PowerShell v2.0 is installed on a list of servers? The list of servers is a combination of Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008. A vbscript or PS script would be wonderful.
I know PowerShell is installed, by default, in Windows Server 2008, though I just like to make sure somebody was not messing with the servers.
Using powershell, is there any way we can export system event logs from a saved system event log file (*.evt). Get-Eventlog does not recognize the "-logname "Saved system log"".
Any ideas ?
I am working on a Windows Server 2003 SP2 with Powershell v2, and I am looking for a way to export all System event logs of a definite time period, (say, from Saturday 2000 hours to Sunday 1100 hours).
I can export all existing System logs using Get-Eventlog command to a CSV file, then copy the entries in the said time window. Though, I am looking an easier way to do this with or without using powershell.
We have a hyper-v host cluster with relatively new hardware. The hosts and the VMs on them all work good, except when I connect to any hyper-v host from another host in the same cluster (remotely using Hyper-V manager), sometimes displays red error (as in attached pic). We see this on different hosts at different times, and is occasional, i.e. it works by its own (nothing to do with any particular time of day or week). This cluster is in DMZ. And this does not seem to affect the working of virtuals or the host. We can connect to the host fine.
We had network guys take a thorough look in to this and they could not find anything. So Network seems OK. We do have few more clusters in non-DMZ zone, and these do not have such problem at all.
Any ideas??
snmp.exe takes 20% cpu utilization, irrespective of any other processes running/stopped on the server. The machine has HP hardware (oops, not IBM) When we stop the snmp service, the CPU utilization is back to normal. Can anyone help on this please.
