I am trying to install k8s on a new machine running Ubuntu 20.04 using containerd and kubeadm is failing to load the images:

# kubeadm config images pull --kubernetes-version=1.21.0 --image-repository registry.k8s.io

failed to pull image "registry.k8s.io/kube-apiserver:v1.21.0": output: time="2023-06-14T15:24:34Z" level=fatal msg="validate service connection: CRI v1 image API is not implemented for endpoint "unix:///run/containerd/containerd.sock": rpc error: code = Unimplemented desc = unknown service runtime.v1.ImageService" , error: exit status 1

I checked containerd and it is running.

# systemctl status containerd
● containerd.service - containerd container runtime
     Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/containerd.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)

I don't have /etc/containerd/config.toml so it is using default configuration.

The plugins list is exactly the same as another (much older) working machine:

(kubelet and kubectl are the same)

The versions match the other machines already in the cluster.

I am trying to install something new on a server with apt-get and am getting this error:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 cassandra : Depends: python-support (>= 0.90.0) but it is not installable
             Recommends: ntp but it is not going to be installed or time-daemon
...
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

Everything I have found on the net so far advises upgrading/uninstalling Cassandra. I definitely can't do that! How can I get this error to go away without messing with Cassandra? I don't mind if I can't upgrade it afterwords using the package manager.

Is there a way to remove the package but leave all its files in place?

I have a Pulsar cluster of 3 machines. Each one running Pulsar broker, Zookeeper and Bookkeeper. I have the following in my broker.conf:

managedLedgerDefaultEnsembleSize=2
managedLedgerDefaultWriteQuorum=2
managedLedgerDefaultAckQuorum=2

So I should be able to take any one of the 3 machines down for a while without any disruption in service right? And when I bring it up will it get copies of all the message it missed? I just want to make sure I am understanding things correctly before I do this to our live cluster. I don’t want to have a very bad weekend!

My user is 'peaagent'. I have tried visudo -f /etc/sudoers.d/peaagent with the following:

peaagent ALL = (root) NOPASSWD: /bin/systemctl stop postgresql.service

When I try stop Postgresql as peaagent it prompts me for a password:

peaagent@myserver:~$ /bin/systemctl stop postgresql.service

Authentication is required to stop 'postgresql.service'.
Authenticating as: root
Password:

Anyone know why this doesn't work? Tx.

We are doing some tests on a new database server with 4 x 240 GB SSD disks. From what I have read RAID 10 should be faster than RAID 5 with the same "one-disk loss ok" redundancy.

However when testing with bonnie++ it seems the RAID 10 isn't any quicker than RAID 5. Any idea why?

RAID5 (all 4 disks):

I ran the RAID 10 test with iozone to see if a multithreaded benchmark would perform any better on the assumption that the 99%-100% CPU reported by bonnie++ might indicate a bottleneck:

(12 threads, 8k block size, total file size of 264G)

The results are slightly better than bonnie++ but not much.

iozone results for RAID 5:

So as explained in the answers RAID 10 random write performance is twice as fast as RAID 5 but all the other stats are similar or slightly better.

We are using nginx to load balance requests to our application. We have found that nginx switches to a different upstream server when requests time out (good). However it does this for PUT and POST requests which can cause undesirable results (data stored twice). Is it possible to configure nginx to only retry GET requests on timeout? Or is there another way to solve the problem?

Our configuration is as follows:

Apache is returning rare intermittent 400 "bad request header field is missing ':' olhuaqv3o1t29flvr0 (random string)" errors. This seems to be related to https access and happens from Firefox, IE, Chrome etc. I am using a certificate from rapidssl.

Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) DAV/2 SVN/1.6.6 mod_jk/1.2.28 PHP/5.3.2-1ubuntu4.5 with Suhosin-Patch mod_ssl/2.2.14 OpenSSL/0.9.8k

Anyone know how to fix this?
