I am looking to deploy a new OpenFiler NAS box. I have setup 2 1TB drives for Raid 1 (software raid built into OpenFiler)and the boot is on a 320GB HDD. When trying to simulate a crash (remove one of the 1tb drives)the system hangs...and reboots....it continues a reboot cycle until the drive is put back in??
What am I missing?
I wanted to get any feedback with installing Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager on our Hyper-V host that also has Symantec Backup Exec 2010.
Our host is running as a member of the domain, and has Backup Exec 2010 installed. We would like to add Virtual Machine Manager 2008 to manage our vm's. I know Microsoft recommends that not much of anything be running on the host, but I wanted to see if anyone is running this configuration and any potential problems/issues I should be looking for?
Also, can we use the workgroup edition of SCVMM or do we require the Enterprise edition?

We are using Backup Exec 2010 R2 with the Hyper-V agent installed on our Hyper-V host. THe backup exec media server is also installed on the Hyper-V host. When we backup our VMs, BExec backs up the entire VHD file even if the file is not full? We are using fixed disks, so the VM for our file server is 300GB. There is only 100GB of data, but BExec backs the entire full 300GB VHD?
If we were to use the Remote Agent for Windows server, can we just backup the files we choose? What type of strategy works best for you with Hyper-V?

We have our Hyper-V server up and running (Windows 2008 ENT SP2) and started to create some of our VMs. The server has 4 total nics. 2 onboard Broadcom 1gb nic cards and a pci dual port Intel Pro cards 1gb. Right now, I have setup 1 broadcom nic to be the hyper-v host nic, and setup the other broadcom nic for the VMs. We are not using the Intel Nics....should we be thinking about teaming?Link Aggregation??
I just want to achieve the best possible setup for the network, but have read many things for and against teaming the nics??

Ok, We are ready to deploy our first Hyper-V server with 3 VMs. Just wanted to get other peoples thoughts on Microsoft SCVMM. Do we really need it with only 1 host server? It seems like a good option if you have more than 1 hyper-v host. Are many people using it with only 1 hyper-v host server?
Also, can it be installed on the Hyper-v host? Or does it require it's own server? What about the Microsoft Data Protection Manager. Are there any real benefits to using these tools with 1 host server? Can they be installed on the host server?

We are going to be P2V 3 of our servers. During this process, we would like to rethink / rebuild how we backup our data. I want to try and move away from the traditional tape backup. However, there are procedures in place that require we hold the month end tapes for 5 years. So with that said, what options are available to us? We will be going with the following:
Hyper V 2008 R2 server (DL380 1-quad-core Xeon G7 24GB with 4x300SAS drives). We we would like to be able to back up all three vm's (sql svr, dc svr and file svr) and be able to restore them in case of disaster, as well as at the file level. The backups need to be continuous through-out the day and easy file recovery. We would then have some sort of backup to get them to tape for archiving. I have read about many products, but trying to get an idea on what people are using/ and thoughts.
