I have two webservers and at the moment have DNS - Round Robin setup so that they are somewhat 'failsafe' this was only ever a temporary failover solution and I am now looking at a more permanent and reliable solution. I have been looking into reverse proxy's, but I am wondering how to integrate mysql with this. I guess my question is: What would be the best setup to implement this?

Solution one: Two reverse proxy servers (for reverse proxy failover) serving from the two webservers (for webhost failover) and having mysql setup on the two reverse proxy servers.

I should mention that the amount of webservers can increase or decrease at any time so having the mysql servers on the reverse proxy's would be better for replication, than trying to juggle replication around multiple servers.

I'm a little confused on how to run unison to sync files with group and owner attributes on an ubuntu system, as you need to be root. But I need to do this remotely and automated. I know I can set up ssh keys and the such for my user but that doesn't matter because I still wont be able to ssh as root to do the changes on the remote system.

I guess my question is; How would I go about using root on the remote system for unison? or is there a way of setting a command for a user to 'auto-run' as root without password?

Or are there any other ways that I could do this?

What is the best way to sync multiple user accounts and home directories over multiple servers, they will all be the same OS. The servers are in different locations around the world, so if one goes down the others are still available. at the moment there are users on one server but if that server goes down there is no way, other than re-creating users and rsyncing the directories over. So just wondering if there is a better way? I haven't used LDAP but could this be a job for it or not?

I have a VPS and have set up vhosts so I cant host websites, im wanting to give each user the ability to create there own db within mysql, I have phpmyadmin installed so can login to that to view the db's, but I want the 'user' to be able to log in and only see there databases. what is the best way of dealing with this? thanks

I am looking at clustering about five machines and I wanted to get some opinions about what is the best way to go about it. I'm wanting to run one VM over the five machines, firstly I want to ask,

1: If I cluster the five machines will there hardware be combined? HDD's CPU's Ports etc..

2: Would the hardware be accessible(Usable) within the VM

Ultimately what I am asking is If I cluster five machines and run a VM over them will that make the VM a 'speed demon' combining CPU's and HDD's?

Also what are some of the clustering operating systems out there at the moment? I have looked around but it seems that allot of it is deprecated or just old.

NOTE: Im not wanting the cluster to process files parallel, Im wanting the speed of the processors, RAM and HDD's combined into one VM working over top of the cluster
