I'm taking to putting various files in /tmp, and I wondered about the rules on deleting them?
I'm imagining it's different for different distributions, and I'm particularly interested in Ubuntu and Fedora desktop versions.
But a nice general way of finding out would be a great thing.
Even better would be a nice general way of controlling it! (Something like 'every day at 3 in the morning, delete any /tmp files older than 60 days, but don't clear the directory on reboot')
I want to reset my postgresql database back to its initial condition after install. Apparently initdb is the way to do this, but although the command has a man page, it doesn't seem to be anywhere on my Ubuntu 10.10 system.
Does anyone know how this is supposed to be done on Ubuntu?
I want to bring postgresql back to its original empty state.
On Ubuntu:
$ sudo service postgresql stop
$ sudo apt-get purge postgresql*
Followed by
$ sudo apt-get install postgresql
Does what I want, but is there any less brutal way of doing the same thing?
What I actually want to do is to check that I can re-create my database from scratch.
