I have here a 24 Disk Array with 3.7 TB disks in it. What would be, performance wise a good configuration when using a RAID 6: RAID 6 over all 24 disks or should I use 2x12 disk RAID 6 and than a RAID 0?

I'm not so interested in conversation about the RAID level itself (e.g. 5 or 6 or 10) but more about the arrangement of the disks. If it would be better using multiple smaller RAID groups or one big RAID group for example... what's here the best practice?

Is there a good tool to find $RECYCLE.BIN folders on network shares and their size?

In our environment we use roaming profiles and folder redirection for storing user profiles/data. Users are often lazy in cleaning up their recycle bin and so our network shares fill up.

I already tried it with a PowerShell script but it often fails or timeouts.

I have the problem that I cannot connect to a Windows 2008 R2 (SP1) server via RDP using my Mac. The error Message I get is the following: “You were disconnected from the Windows-based computer because of problems during the licensing protocol”

From asking Mr. Google I tried the proposed solution to delete some cached files, but it didn’t resolve the problem.

The strange thing is that to other S servers running Windows 2008 R2 (SP1) on the same Network I can connect.

I checked the configuration on the server and noticed that under Roles -> Remote Desktop Services -> RD Session Host Configuration it says under Connection Type: “Microsoft RDP 7.1”. On other server where I can connect it says “Microsoft RDP 6.1”.

Could that be the reason?

The Mac I use has Lion 10.7.3 installed

We have in a quite large Organization Lync 2010 deployed. Also we use for software and updates distribution System Center Configuration Manager.

Our problem we face is that, if we distribute the Lync 2010 client updates through SCCM’s update service, and the update gets applied the Lync 2010 client silently quits. Whatever someone for example is in a Call, IM, Conference … Of course you can think this not so good if the Manager is in an important call and suddenly the Lync client quits.

We surely could distribute the update late at night or in the night, but then we have the problem that not all client are power up since most users shut down their PC after they leave the office, and let me say “Wake On Lan” isn’t really an options there.

So I’m curios how others handle Lync Client Updates in their organization? Or what are the best practices in distributing them...

I'm trying to perform a installation of OpenOffice 3.3.0 so that we can distribute it through SMS on our Windows clients.

I found an article on the OpenOffice wiki on how to perform such installation but it doesn't works for me. The setup stops and nothing happens.

Maybe someone out there has had the same experience and can provide me some help, that would be nice.

I have a script where I mount with the command "New-PSDrive" a network drive. Now, since the script is running as a "cronjob" on a server I want to have some error detection. If for any reason the command New-PSDrive fails the script should stop executing and notify that something went wrong. I have the following code:

    New-PSDrive -Name A -PSProvider FileSystem -Root \\server\share
} Catch {
    ... handle error case ...
}
... other code ...

For testing reasons I specified a wrong server name and I get the following error "New-PSDrive : Drive root "\wrongserver\share" does not exist or it's not a folder". Which is OK since the server does not exists. But the script does not go into the Catch clause and stop. It happily continues to run and ends up in a mess since no drive is mounted :-)

So my question, why? Is there any difference in Exception handling in PowerShell? I should also note that I'm a noob in PowerShell scripting.
