I have a problem where one of the DHCP scopes has exhausted its scope of IPs. Investigating, I found that a couple of the window 2008 r2 servers were reserving blocks of IPs for RAS running on the server. We don't use RAS and or have a need.
how can this be disabled or configured to not reserve IP's automatically?
Is there equivelant tool in oracle 11g to the Oracle Enterprise manager (OEM) that came with oracle 9i?
pointers on where to download/install/access would be greatly appreciated.
I am interested in setting up HAProxy for use as a load balancer for a set of small traffic web applications. The use is growing and might become medium sized in the near term (6 months or so). Mainly we are looking balance load becuase some customers want their own dedicated server, some what to be as low cost as possible so to accomodate we seem to need a load balancer.
I looked at the HAProxy home and some of the blogs but they really dont get into the specifics or are huge sites using sun servers for the application
What kind of hardware and which distrobution would anyone recommend in terms of processor, memory, storage and distrobution are you using or would recommend for such an application?

Is there an FTP server that can also provide access via HTTP? Or what do I need to do to set up the mirror of FTP through HTTP access ? Some of my clients cannot access our FTP because of corporate policy and cannot get updates from me. However, they can use HTTP.
Currently I use filezilla because it was fast/easy to set up but would switch to something with more flexibility.
It started as a simple diagnostic: dcdiag /c
when it ran it gave me the following error from the DNS portion of the DCDIAG test
delegation is broken for foo.com.foo.com on dns server on dns server 192.168.1.1
and
delegation is broken for foo.com.foo.com on dns server on dns server 192.168.1.2
Those IP's correspond to the two domain controllers on the network.
So now I am left wondering. What is a broken delegation and more importantly, how do I fix it?
I have a server with a 3Ware 9650SE 8 port controller. I had an 8 drive raid 5 array with a hot spare drive as part of the array of roughly 3.87 TB in size. When I signed into the server today, I found that I have now TWO arrays - 1 array with all drives ok, but the hot spare is no longer a member, and a second array with only the host spare in the array (same size) with only the hot spare marked as good and all the other drives (which are OK members in the other array) marked as degraded.
I have a backup, but its uncertain if its corrupted.
Any advice on what caused this to happen. What to do next? should I delete the second array and merge the drive back into the functioning array?
I am managing what can only be described as the little network that grew. It began life with a linksys router, 3 windows machines and a dsl connection. Through the years, lots of servers, network printers, WAPS and the like have been added. if hiring continues at current pace, by the end of the year, we will have exhausted the complete 192.168.5.x with a single windows domain.
what kind of problems am I going to run into by moving workstations into another subnet for accessing internal servers, web etc. do i need to set up a different windows domain and then enable trust ? any help and advice from those who have done this before would be appreciated.
I need to build a couple of really large bulk storage servers for a project I am working on. I don't need fast response, just big, dumb storage. lots of it to hold statistical data going back to the turn of the last century. I was thinking to build something like the Backblaze od. I have all the parts except the chassis to hold the drives in the vertical configuration. I am having a hard time sourcing this part.
Anyone know a supplier that can build these things, one off or maybe even is producing them in bulk?
Is there any advice for managing software installations downloaded from the web - both free and purchased? Currently we have built up a folder share within which we set up folders for categories of software and then vendor name, title and version, e.g.
\installrepository\devtools\microsoft\visualstudio\vs2008\vs2008en.iso
Usually the install key(s) for our licenses are also in with the install in case we have to rebuild a machine that was torched or migrate them to a new platform.
Are there better ways to do this?
I am looking after a sever that is managing the downloads of software updates released by the company where I work. The throttle in IIS7 seems to limit the total rate and not the rate each individual download gets. I was thnking on installing media services, adding .zip as a type and then throttling the individual connection rate based on what I read.
Is this how this sort of thing is done with IIS7?
I am being asked to set up a battery of windows 7 flavours for a guy over in QA using VM's so that his office isn't filled with boxen. Is the common practice to activate these temporary machines or do folks just set them up, run the tests and then reload after a while.
Does this even matter?
running ySlow on a website I support, I noticed it reported that the etags are misconfigured for the site images (e.g. *.jpg, *.png, *.gif). Can anyone help explain what I have to do to get IIS7 issuing these etags correctly ?

Is there any kind of tool to assist in loading an unloading servers? I realized that I lack both height and upper body strength to remove servers from the upper tiers of a rack? I could not find the name or type of equipment that folks are using to do this kind of work safely?
In this video can I see that they use a dedicated "server lift" http://www.racklift.com/RackLift-Demo-Video.html which looks quite expensive until you consider the cost of what your lifting.
Does anyone know of cheap server lifts or other tools that can be used for this?

Our company is moving to new offices in a couple of months, and I am responsible for looking after the move of the development servers in the company. most of the dev equipment is in 5, 42U cabinets + rack for switching/routing equipment. How do most people do this sort of thing? Move the cabinent whole or extract the indvidual components and move the racks empty.
any advise on prep and shutdown before the move would be welcome
