I'm using Apache inside a Docker container, and want to attach the process to the container (preventing forking). However, all the documentation says to run using apachectl, which immediately exits and runs apache under the hood. Is there a clean way to run apache directly?

I've tried the following, but it fails:

$ source /etc/apache2/envvars
$ /usr/sbin/apache2 -f /etc/apache2/sites-available/rails.conf
AH00534: apache2: Configuration error: No MPM loaded.

I'm trying to get Varnish to run in a container, and I'm running into a weird issue. Things work fine if I log in, and then execute from a command line, but when I try to run it, using the same command, from Docker, it seems fails (I'm guessing it's not picking up the configs properly). Any ideas?

I'm running Apache2 in a docker container, and want to write nothing to the disk, writing logs to stdout and stderr. I've seen a few different ways to do this (Supervisord and stdout/stderr, Apache access log to stdout) but these seem like hacks. Is there no way to do this by default?

To be clear, I do not want to tail the log, since that will result in things being written to the disk in the container.

Since upgrading my Ubuntu Machine, all my NFS mounts are hanging. I checked the syslog, and I'm seeing this now:

Sep 29 04:29:10 ip-10-10-10-10 kernel: [ 9589.594814] RPC: AUTH_GSS upcall failed. Please check user daemon is running.

All other methods of debugging NFS still show it up and running (telnet, rpcinfo, etc). What is the AUTH_GSS service and why does it need to be running? I've been running around on Google, but I can't see any reason why it wouldn't already be going.

** UPDATE **

In addition to this, I'm now seeing the following on the server:

** FURTHER DEBUGGING **

To be clear, it's absolutely running, and accepting connections from the client machine. I'm able to telnet over to 111 and 2049 from the client machine with no issue.

We have some fairly large datasets (user events and server log information - >100 GB) that's becoming fairly unwieldy for data processing. I've seen lots of activity around NoSQL/Hadoop/etc and I was wondering what SV had to say about a paired solution. The absolute ideal situation would be:

  • A "master-slave" like synchronization between our live MySQL and the NoSQL/Hadoop servers, but different enough that we can build custom indexes/etc.
  • Ability to run standard aggregation results on the NoSQL/Hadoop in trivial time such as:
    • <1 sec for sum(*) where event_type = 'blarg' between 'date 1' and 'date 2'
    • Give me all the incoming search terms (which we record) for this page and the children of this page over an arbitrary time period and their count
  • A simple (<10 minute) way to update a developer's machine.

Thoughts? We've tried a number of solutions around MySQL and nothing meets all these elegantly.

I'm looking to do MySQL dumps on a nightly basis. I already have a solution for outputting just a diff of the data, but what I need is a way to import the data back into MySQL so the data in MySQL is UPDATED, instead of INSERTED if it's already there. For example, here's a sample table:

Id | User | Account_Value | Created_At | Updated_At
1  | Bob  | $100          | 2009-01-01 | 2009-01-01
2  | Ed   | $200          | 2009-01-01 | 2009-01-01

Then the next day, the table looks like this:

Id | User | Account_Value | Created_At | Updated_At
1  | Bob  | $50           | 2009-01-01 | 2009-01-02
2  | Ed   | $200          | 2009-01-01 | 2009-01-01

When I do the data export on the second day, it will correctly output something like:

INSERT into ACCOUNTS VALUES (1,'Bob', '$50', '2009-01-01', '2009-01-02')

However, this will conflict with what's already there. What I want is to have it overwrite what's already there. Thoughts?
