Having a very odd issue in which when connecting to shares from 2008 or 2008 R2 servers that are hosted by a 2008 or 2008 R2 server the files added to a folder will not always appear to update right away. However, this issue doesn't happen if the server hosting the share is running 2003 or has SMB2 turned off.

I've tried everything there and found the issue seems to be directly related with SMB2. When I disable SMB2 the problem doesn't happen. However, I don't really consider this to be a real fix and so was hoping someone would have an idea to the cause and maybe a solution.

In a large Enterprise Windows Environment. What do IT people do to login as a user if needed? It seems impossible to me to keep user passwords in a large environment. In a Mac environment, you have the option to masquerade as a user and login using the admin credentials.

What do large Windows Environments do when it's necessary to login as the user?

Just curious if people recommend running QuickBooks on the regular Citrix servers or if it's best to keep a separate server in the farm specifically for QuickBooks.

I recently P2V'd my ShoreTel server. After doing so everything seems fine. No errors anywhere, and everything looks good in Director except for a licensing issue since the mac address changed.

However, I have one other issue. When clicking voicemail, or calling the office, there is no audio playing. I can't hear any prompts whatsover anywhere. The windows audio service wasn't running initially, but I verified that was on and still had no success.

Has anyone experienced anything like this or have any input? Everything in the device manager looked fine.

I couldn't find any information via search to determine this via the Intel or HP website. Can you enable NUMA nodes on this? How can you tell the side of each node if so? Is it always best practice to enable and size VMs based on this if it's available or does that depend if you're running an application like SQL that makes use of this?

Couple questions.

1. Should you always completely separate the storage network switches from production switches or are VLANs fine to segment this traffic? Is there a golden rule here?

2. How do you properly size a switch for your environment based on the specifications the manufacturer provide (Throughput, Forwarding Throughput, Stacking Throughput, Max Mac)?

3. If you have two switch options and one has a maximum Mac address of 8,000 vs. another with 16,0000. What does this really mean to me? How do make sure one vs. another is sized properly for me?

4. Besides VLAN and Jumbo Frame support, is there any other "Must" haves for a virtual environments production or storage networks?

There is a wealth of knowledge on sizing SANs and such, but this seems equally important and it's quite challenging to find as much information.

Just to add some tidbits of information for the environment. This setup above is referring to the data centers which supports two different locations which have about 100 users between the two in total. The storage traffic will be iSCSI and will be 3 ESXi Hosts and one SAN housing about 2.7TB of data.

Since there is currently no storage network in place (no SAN), I'm having a hard time regarding #2 to really determine what backplane throughput and switch specifications will be sufficient.

Small farm running Windows Server 2008 x64 and XenApp 5 with the latest hotfix rollup. The users are standard users, but for whatever reason they see all of the auto-created session printers. Initially, everyone was a local admin, but this was taken away quite some time ago.

Is it due to this or something else? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We just started having issues as of last night. Basically, all was good until I tried to add a users account to someones phone. It wasn't working and then noticed some activesync errors on the box. Per a KB article, it mentioned to add some reserved ports into the registry to resolve, and if the events continue to occur to remove the patch 951746 or 951748. Also, I can't get on the web whatsoever, but I can ping google and get a response.

In any case, I'm having issues now in that since last night around this time SMTP and IMAP will not start. Both give an error like "The service could not bind instance 1. The data is the error code.".

I checked netstat, but I don't see anything using or listening on SMTP or IMAP. I also tried to telnet to port 25, but don't get any connection.

There are no firewalls or AV enabled. Any help greatly appreciated while I wait on MS to give me a call back after opening this ticket.

What are you all doing to monitor ESXi servers that run the free edition? With the lack of SNMP support, it seems fairly limited to me. What'd I'd like to be able to do is get some type of alert when a drive or other hardware fails. I've seen a few articles on getting OpenManage installed on an ESXi box (to rebuild an array), but it seems to be quite a pain as well. Even if I get OpenManage working, I won't have alerts without SNMP.

Any comments, input, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

When I deploy a printer:

• to computers via GPO, it seems to deploy to Windows XP machines only.
• to users via GPO, it deploys to both Windows XP and Windows 7 machines.

When I look in the RSoP Snap-in, it shows the policy hitting the computer successfully and there are no errors in the Event Viewer.

I've got some network printers shared on a 2003 server. I set them as deployed in a GPO. All my XP machines get the printer. My windows 7 machines show success in applying the policy, but the printers do not appear in the list. Any ideas? I have the "Point and Print Restrictions" set to disabled under the Computer Configuration as well.
