When monitoring systems for their temperature, and fan speeds, what source of sensor readings is most preferred?
I can get all the motherboard readings from both, IPMI and directly from the Winbond sensor driver itself. I can get CPU readings from ACPI, or from the CPU temp driver itself. I also can get GPU readings from ACPI, and the GPU driver itself.
I've been managing my Yum repositories with Pulp, mirrored and hosted. The complexity is pretty serious, so I've only considered the operational and infrastructure related repositories. DevOps has been almost completely off the table, as repository management has been too fragile to support across the enterprise.
So I've just had Jenkins upload RPMs with the mvn command to Nexus. I'm not happy with either work flow, the nexus not geared for this problem space, and Pulp has been too fragile to meet my needs. I have been using Pulp, and I made it work despite the problems.
How do other teams mirror/host their packages, in a robust enterprise work-flow?. What about automation across teams? A REST API of some sort?
I've set up Hugepages, but i'm not seeing any of them reserved. Have I missed a step, or for some particular reason, is MySQL is unable to utilize the Hugepages? I have not created a mount of hugetlbfs, although from what I read, MySQL would not call pages in such a manner. If I'm wrong, please let me know, as that would be a trivial solution. Almost all my MySQL tables are using InnoDB.
NOTE: I created a hugetlbfs, no change as expected. Is it possible that rebooting would rectify this situation? I would not want to go through the procedure, as this is high availability, but would do so if necessary.

I'm setting up some MySQL monitoring and migrating from Nagios + Cacti to Icinga. Does Idoutils replace Cacti, for pragmatic purposes? Does Idoutils utilize cacti templates? Or if not is migrating them simple? What about Percona Cacti graphs? Can they be utilized in Idoutils?

I'm attempting to get a TFTP server working, from my workstation. I've actually attempted this multiple times, never succeeded. I've setup real tftp from a router, but my home router is nothing close to a cisco. I'm forced to do this from my workstation, and as expected unable to get dnsmasq to repsond to a dhcping
This is my plan, TFTP some firmware to my new router... To replace the very limited home router. The upload is ONLY possible from TFTP, believe me I was looking for any possible alternative. I'm unable to ZMODEM via serial, and soldering a JTAG would be even more difficult than this plan. I actually don't need the internet really working from the TFTP server interface, just want that firmware accessible.

Do I need to create some type of route? What Should I do to get this working?
I have created some "Additional Rules", in "Software Restriction Policies". The rules work as expected, but I get a dialog message box every time they disallow the specified application.
How can I disable this message box from being displayed? Is this possible? For specific "Additional Rules"? If not even a blanket configuration, preventing all these type of messages is acceptable. They are almost worse than the software my "Additional Rules" prevents from executing.

I am doing some rate-limiting with IPtables, and i'm not sure if I should use "Recent" or "Limit"
What are the differences between the two? If they both achieve the same result, which one has better performance? I would like to know, regardless if any difference would be perceivable.
I am looking to ACCEPT if under limit, and REJECT if over. I'm not interested in thus bandwidth throttling, I don't want a queue.

I'm looking to display just the email address in the /var/log/secure file. The email goes into a variable, so just grepping for lines won't work.
I know how to string together sed commands, but is there a cleaner way?
I could even scrap the idea altogether, if there is a cleaner way to get ssh key comment emails. I'm looking to find out which email comment, on the clients ssh key, was used to login. So far I have been using something like this..

I hope there is a better way, or at least a clean way to display just the email.
I'm optimizing the configuration of a MySQL server, running only Bromine. This is non specific to application, and was just noted for completeness. I am trying to determine if switching from MyISAM to InnoDB is a better option, on few write dominant tables. these tables take most of the writes for the server, but also the highest percentage of all queries. I don't want to make all the tables InnoDB, even though it would save me this time. I prefer MyISAM over all; InnoDB has its own strengths, which make sense for these write heavy specific tables.
I know how to look at the read/write statistics for the MySQL instance, and run all the recommended analyses scripts. I plainly would like to know, how do I look at the read/write stats on a specific table?
If someone, with relevant experience, has any recommended stats to look at. I would appreciate the input.
UPDATE: I posted about this issue on the Bromine forumns, And they let me know which tables are write heavy. This does not really answer the question, as I would like to know anyway.

I'm forced to have this directory structure /var/www/$WEBSITE/$DIR1/$DIR2/$FILES
for each of those $FILES, there is approx 50,000 XHTML pages.
I'm running Cherokee, which has new front-end caching support. But i'm somewhat memory limited, so I can't cache the whole thing. I believe I can cache just the listing, which is the worst part.
What can I do on the file system side of things? I normally use ext4 (my server is using ext3), But i know ReiserFS is preferred for this type of situation. I could possibly just mount that $WEBSITE in ReiserFS. I really am not looking forward to repartitioning things, and would love to work around this.
Can i do a staggered subdirectories somewhere on the filesystem and just symlink them all to $DIR2? Would that help make this nasty situation perform better, with less pain from the ext3?
i really don't want anything RDB, I would consider a NOSQL option If I could somehow create a faux filesystem from it. that would be such a cool option, just not sure it even exists. Possibly something FUSE related exists?
the whole site already exists, and it basically is just a fancy directory listing. The files get written once, and then just read from there on out. There is no chance the number of files per directory would increase from this point.
