I have an user with the email:

lej@domain.com

I'd like to also have him recieve his emails on:

lj@domain.com

Note that it is the SAME (1) domain I'm talking about. Another example would be:

• ct@domain.com
• casper.thygesen@domain.com

I've tried adding the smtp adress in Email Adresses in AD, but it doesn't work. Sending emails to lj@domain.com gives Delivery Status Notification (Failure). Error: 550 550 Invalid recipient <lj@domain.com> (#5.1.1) (state 14).

I'm the IT-administrator. There is 25 users. All running Windows XP SP3 Professional. We have an exchange server running exchange 2003.

Everybody is connected to network and exchange, except a single user who has issues with exchange. It stopped working this monday, he opened Outlook while we had some brief network issues.

He can access the network, go on the internet, access shared folders on the server etc. But he can not connect to exchange.

If I go to mail -> Exchange accounts -> settings, the settings are:

• Microsoft Exchange-server: beck.becklaw.local (same setting used on all computers)
• User Name: Lars SECRET

When I click the [Check Name] button, to find the user, it says: There is no connection to microsoft exchange. Again, this is the only user with that problem.

HOWEVER, if I type the server name of my domain controller (becklaw), it can find him. Also, it works if I type the IP adress of the server in the Microsoft Exchange-server field, which is: 192.168.1.2

It then finds the user, and replaces Microsoft Exchange-server with: beck.becklaw.local.

But it doesn't work, because it says: There is no connection to Microsoft Exchange when I open outlook.

It seems like some sort of DNS mismatch, and I have tried doing ipconfig /flushdns.

Have anyone of you experience similar issues with one of your users?

So we are running with veritas 9.1 with exchange agent, and I am having issues setting it up. I tried following the manuels, but I do not believe I have archived the backup-setup that I want. I do believe I need someone experienced with Veritas 9.1.

We are using 1 TB extern harddrives.

• Mon-Friday:

  We have a "Daily backup" running from Monday till Friday. It runs a Differential backup. Settings: "When this job begins: Append to media, overwrite if no appendable media is availiable".

• Saturday:

  we run "e-mail backup" which is Full/Mod Time backup. Settings: "When this job begins: Append to media, overwrite if no appendable media is availiable".

• Sunday

  we run a "full backup" which makes a Full backup of everything except e-mail.

• Daily takes less than an hour to complete.

• Full backup - e-mail takes about 5 hours to complete

• E-mail backup takes about 5 hours to complete.

Device settings:

Maximum size for backup-to-disk files: 4095

Maximum number of backup sets per backup-to-disk file: 8000 (I just chose the largest)

This is not working at all, and I am aware of that, it is all wrong, and I am having issues setting it all up correctly. Also, we do e-mail and fullbackup seperately, because if e-mail fails, the whole backup fails. E-mail fails once in a while and that is very annoying - would upgrading to Veritas 12 fix this?

This is what I want: I want it to contain 4 weeks of data. Fullbackup on sundays, followed by 5-6 differential backups, than a new week etc. After 4 weeks, it gets exchanged with a different external harddisk which has been stored offsite (e.g a rotation).

One of the things it seems to be doing wrong: It seems to overwrite previous backups, even though I ask it to append. I always have max 14-15 files on the backup harddisk - something that should increase. This also happens for differential backups.

Per request, I can tell you and take screenshots of my different settings.

So our current backup system has stopped working. We had 4 harddrives on rotate, each taking 2 days and sunday being skipped. Each backup doing a FULL backup. I did NOT design this! All 4 harddrives are not working suddenly. I am investigating it sigh

Anyway, I would like to use the opportunity to set up a proper system.

I have some specific requests:

• Has to be able to handle harddrive failure (so some duplication, raid or similar).
• I will go to work tomorrow and find out which inputs, besides USB, it can take.
• It has to support encryption (disk encryption?), a strong one would be great (in fear of theft).
• It has to do good incremental backups.
• Some inbuildt support for exchange server 2003 would be greatly appreciated.
• If it can support some kind of rotation, it would be great.

So far, each month, the chief take a harddrive, which has a backup of everything,and takes it home to his vault. After a months, he would take it back, put it back into rotation and then take a different one home. Etc. This prevent complete dataloss if there is a major fire, theft or similar.

If it could this, as a hot-swap(I was thinking of a raid5 + a drive doing a duplicate), it would be great.

Can anyone help me out? My company is able to pay both for hardware solution plus a seperate software solution that uses the hardware.

I am running Windows Server 2003 with exchange 2003. Outlook provides an "all" mailing list option. So if you write "all" in the To:field, everybody at the office receives the e-mail.

I need to make sure this certain user, does not receive these global emails.

How can I accomplish this?

I work as a sys-admin at a lawyer office. They have a lot of meetings and their schedule is very important to them. Outlook 2007 does a fine job. The server is Windows Server 2003 running Exchange 2003.

The problems are with the secretaries, who have to keep track of virtually all the calenders. This works by making some group calenders plus making all calenders "shared".

I do have a problem, though, and that is the time it takes for a refresh. It simply takes too long, from a person updating his/her calender to the secretaries having the most recent schedule. Fifteen minutes or so is not acceptable.

Is there any way to make the calender in Outlook update more often? Or simply a force update option (think of F5 in a browser).

I desperately need it and google has only articles on "slow outlook" and similar. There aren't many articles about the calender - nor can I find a lot of settings/customization in Outlook 2007.

I have set about 10 group-policies, and it works OK. Although, it would be interesting to see what kind of things IT-administrators enforce.

If you have a ton of policies, just show some, that you feel really changes something.

I guess you could avoid "default permit" -> block everything you can, and only keep things unlocked, that is directly needed.

This question refers to Windows Servers :) Although I won't shun Mac nor Linux administrators.

I work for a lawyer company which has a lot of extremely sensitive data.

I would like to step up a notch on security. Especially when it comes to e-mail.

So I'd like a lot of recommendations, encryption, storing and similar. I already have some precautions, but it is better to generalize and better to ask for a lot of suggestions.

As many tips as possible please :)

Clients have: Windows XP coupled with Office 2007. We have an exchange server running 2003 as backend. I would rather not upgrade the OS, but other than that, I am very open to suggestions. Oh and another thing. Office 2007 is a must as well, can't change that one, as some of our company software relies on Word, Excel and Outlook.

We use the same template in Word 2007 for all the employees. When I setup a new user, I just take a copy from the server and paste it into his Application/Microsoft/Templates folder - replacing the standard.

When there needs to be a change, I change the template on the server and run a program that distributes the templates to all user profiles on the server - so next time they log in, the profile synchronizes and the template has been updated.

Now, we go with the same font in Outlook 2007. So I manually have to log into their end-user computer, open Outlook and then set the font - quite annoying.

Isn't there any way you can tie the font to some kind of template file in Outlook 2007?

EDIT: Or perhaps some kind of user policy?

I am in the middle of moving all my clients, at the firm I work for, to Office 2007 from Office 2003.

A few of the computers only have 512 mb ram, which is not enough to run Office 2007 properly. As you might have guessed from the amount of ram, some of the computers are a few years old. I can't find labels on them, telling me which brand and number they are.

If you know the brand and model number, there is a ton of sites that can identify what kind of ram you need to buy.

But is there a way to identify this information, when it is not displayed on the case?

I am sysadmin for a small business with 30 clients. We have a server running windows 2003 and all the client-computers run windows XP.

Now this is not an important issue, but it would be nice if it worked. My personal (home) computer is running windows 7 RC.

When I bring my home-computer to work and log into the network with domain\username it logs me in just fine. Although, approving my profile, letting me into the network, including all network drives and printers, it does not download the profile fully. I do believe it might be getting the roaming profiles.

So all my user- items, documents etc. attached to the profile does not show up on Windows 7.

Is there any way to make it fully download the profile? as it does with Windows XP.

I can not change the User Templates path in "File location...".

It simply refuses to change to anything different. My goal is to set the path to a templates folder on the server e.g \myserver\folder\templates. Although, choosing a different local path does not work either. It simply does not respond/react and keeps the default path.

Can you offer any assistance?

The problem goes for all my client computers. I work for a small sized company with 30 computers. We are slowly upgrading them to Office 2007 from Office 2003 - and this is one of the problems I am facing. So far, the only computers with Office 2007 is completely new computers with Microsoft Office 2007 OEM (updated to SP2). This will only happen for our really old computers though. The others will simply just receive an upgrade-license...

So I have gotten a new job at a medium sized company as an IT-administrator.

I have also inherited this monster (actually, there is 2 of them) from the previous administrator:

I'd like you guys expertise and experience on how to make sense of it. Someday, all hell will probably break loose and I'll need to fiddle with the cables and switches.

So I'll need to have an overview of where which cable leads to etc. What approach should I take?

EDIT: I guess I did not clarify myself well enough :) I also mean that it a little more detailed. Such as, you say: Color both ends. Yes, but what is the easiest way to figure out which cable leads to where? :)

I am an IT-Admin at an medium sized lawyer firm. I see that Windows Update is trying to push IE8 out to the market.

Does anyone know if there is any disadvantages to upgrade to IE8? Besides, perhaps, more memory usage compared to IE7.

The clients are running IE6 or IE7 currently, and none of the application are directly dependent on internet explorer as such.
