I am looking for tools for Windows that can act as a reverse-proxy in front of a server to introduce various networking issues like jitter, delays, or packet loss.

My preference is a software solution that will work on Windows. Httpd mod_proxy doesn't appear to support such a configuration, and googling for a tool in this category is proving fruitless.

Does the subversion mod_dav_svn support Apache's MPM-Worker thread configuration?

I'm finding very little documentation so far on this, and I'm looking for better ways to make use of my subversion server resources.

For a Linux or Windows system, what tricks do you do to optimize your Subversion server?

The following are my current tricks for a Linux system serving over Apache with HTTPS and backed by Active Directory using LDAP authentication.

• Enabling KeepAlive on Apache
• Disable SVNPathAuthz
• Increase LDAP Cache
• Using the FSFS storage method instead of BDB
  • Feel free to call this into question. I don't have hard proof that FSFS out performs BDB, only lots of tribal knowledge and hearsay.

I'm generally sick of managing my own e-mail server, but there are some applications I'm working on that will be needing to communicate with 3rd party users over e-mail. For things such as registration confirmation, alerts, and account recovery.

I've been impressed with Gmail for personal use, and trust in Google's ability to handle arbitrary volume of requests, but is this scenario suggested?

The only requirements that I know of aside from using a business account, is that the applications will need to talk to their SMTP directly and over TLS/SSL.

If you have decent alternative mail hosting providers you like that are as reliable and reasonably priced, feel free to suggest them.

First this is a subjective questions, so to narrow it down, I'm including some general requirements as I see them for what a good document management system should handle.

General Requirements

• Search
  • Word, PDF, Powerpoint, Excel etc
• Revisioning
  • Author
  • Comment on change
• User customizable watchers
  • Feed Notification of changes to files / folders / tags / patterns that matter to them.
• Integration with User Directory (LDAP/AD etc)
• Easy remote access
  • Ideally a web system for Search/Remote Access/Document Linking
• Document Cross Linking
  • If a file moves, old links to the file should remain valid
• Document Tagging
• Offline access
  • If a user is offsite, can they easily pull down the file set/directory to their machine and then work offline, for example an international flight.

Assumed Requirements

• Ability to Backup
• Can handle a reasonable pool of users (20-1000)
• Some way of scaling long term

Software

I have a few things in mind, but nothing really strikes the sweet spot of the above requirements and usability.

• Microsoft Sharepoint
  • Not friendly to diverse user base (multi-os etc)
  • Hard to manage documents en-mass and confusing interface
• Subversion
  • Solves offline, but requires a lot of bolt-on's to resolve search, usability and other needs
• Atlassian Confluence
  • Documents are secondary to wiki functionality, and harder to access offline

Any suggestions?

Fine Print

I haven't mentioned other VCS solutions (git/P4/cvs etc) due to user experience complexities, but I'm open to suggestions and examples using such technologies.

I'm interested in sending Apache2 access logs directly to CouchDB or some other document storage system. Do you know of any Apache2 modules that do this, or what options there would be to write one myself?
