My ISP blocks port 25. So, I cannot connect to my server and send emails. I've tried changing it to 465. And it works! However, after this change, I cannot receive emails anymore.

The above is my master file after the 465 change. (notice the first line).

I cannot receive emails anymore after this change. Please help! Thanks!

I have a dump.rdb file, which is in the same directory as redis.config.

When I start my sever:

redis-server ./redis.config

It does not load the data in that 1 GB file.

How do I load that data?

EC2 Small vs Amazon RDS - which is faster for MySQL?

(I have one database, well-indexed and tuned. About 10,000 rows on each table.)

How's the performance like?

I want to tail -f my logs. However, I want to filter out everything that has the words:

In Amazon EC2, where I set "security groups", It says: Source:

0.0.0.0/0 And then it gives an example of: 192.168.2.0/24

What is "/24"?

I know what port and IP is.

I never know when's the best time to use nohup and the & at the end of the command.

So I just succesfully set up postfix + dovecot. is SPF enough to make sure emails get delivered to my website's users?

I don't want my emails to end up in their spam box.

So, I just created the Amazon RDS account. And I started an instance of database.

The "endpoint" is:
abcw3n-prod.cbmbuiv8aakk.us-east-1.rds.amazonaws.com

Great! Now I try to connect to it from one of my other EC2 instances.

mysql -uUSER -pPASS -habcw3n-prod.cbmbuiv8aakk.us-east-1.rds.amazonaws.com

But nothing works and it just hangs.

I tried to ping it, and nothing works either. Nothing happens.

Do I need to change some settings?

I know how to do every minute, but how about every 10 seconds?

If I do this 10 times a month, how much would that cost me?

I created a new instance (tiny, 64 bit AMI linux from Amazon) Created a new key pair called "mir". I downloaded mir.pem and put it in my ~/.ssh folder. I even did ssh-add mir.pem.

Then I tried to ssh ubuntu@public_DNS_from_amazon

Why doesn't it work!?

I'm trying to import a gzipped SQL file into mysql directly. Is this the right way?

mysql -uroot -ppassword mydb > myfile.sql.gz

I went to my zoneedit.com, changed mydomain.com to point to a different IP. But changes haven't taken affect yet.

Is this because my ISP DNS is caching?

I simply did :

sudo aptitude install apache2

And that's how my server is set up. No extra modules, no nothing.

I'm on ubuntu jaunty.

I just want to pause everything. Don't execute anything listed on crontab -l.

For mysql...is there a way to set it so that every table that gets created is innodb?

I have database servers, web servers, SVN servers, etc. Often times I ssh among them...or they auto-ssh.

How do I manage what server gets to log into which others?

Right now, I make everyone do ~/.vimrc and put their settings there.

How can I make a global, default .vimrc for new users?

How can I make it so that the PYTHONPATH can include everything subdirectory?

My system admin gave me a file with iptables rules. What command do I type in to load this?

I watched him do it before, and he did it in 1 line! Something like...iptables > thefile.dat ????
