I have a remote Ubuntu system, and I need to do the following checks on it in nagios:

• check_users

• check_procs

• check_all_disks.

How do I do that on a remote system? I've looked around, but everything I've found seems to be from either early 2010 or ealier.

I'm trying to figure out if I can do this via a SOCKS proxy, or if I need to use a VPN.

I have a Ubuntu server, and a dual-boot Ubuntu 11.10/Windows 7 client. What I'd like to do is connect to the server, and then be able to make use of entries in the servers /etc/hosts file - including one which is on the servers LAN.

Is this possible via SOCKS? If not, is there anything special I'd need to do for it to work with openVPN?

I was looking through my apache logs trying to debug something, and I noticed the following in my logs:

What is it? All it ever does is a GET /, so should I be concerned?

Also, as you can see by IP removed*, I noticed three separate IP addresses.

Here's my situation:

I have a server running Apache on port 80, a node.js application on port 8000, and I'd like to know if I have to open ports in order for ProxyPass and mod_proxy to work.

What'd I'd like to do is have a node.js program be hosted in public_html/<appname> and be accessible by heading to domainname.com:80/appname - the server is Ubuntu 10.04, I'm using Apache as my HTTP server. Is it even possible?

I'm interested in building a small Asterisk environment to explore Asterisk.

I understand that these are multiple questions, but considering how closely related these are to each other, I decided to ask them as one question. If I need to, I'll split them up.

• intra-Asterisk only at this time
• lines no external lines (no POTS or PSTN, etc.)
• 1 concurrent internal calls & no external calls
• voicemail
• lab-type reliability (assume 100mbit)
• LAN and 802-11G wifi

My questions:

• How much server (RAM, CPU, disk) do I need?
• Could I run this on a VM?
• Are there softphone options for Mac I could use?
• If not, are there wifi handsets?
• Will I need any cards? (Since I'm planning on softphone/wifi handsets and no external calls, I don't think so.)
