My question is simple but I am not sure if it is possible :

Is there a way to specify a custom IP address AND a different hostname before I boot a virtual machine from VMWare Workstation ? (Win 7 or Win XP guest OS)

Example :

  • Virtual Machine #1 is running Windows XP

    1. Run a copy of virtual machine #1 with ip 192.168.0.10 and with hostname PC01
    2. Run a second copy of virtual machine #1 with ip 192.168.0.60 and with hostname PC28

I have a Windows 2003 domain using 192.168.0.0/24 with all static addresses (no dhcp). I want to move to 192.168.0.0/16 because we need more addresses. I understand that we need to change netmask from all computer from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.0.0

My questions are:

  1. Is there a way to not change netmask of all computer and changing our domain controller to 192.168.0.0/16?

  2. What change need to be done on DNS side (Active Directory) to be able to handle the new subnet?

I have managed to make my VLAN work on both switches :

  • Computer #1 from Dell Switch port #20 (VLAN #2) can ping Computer #2 from SMC Switch port #21 (VLAN #2)

What I need to do is :

  • Laptop on Dell Switch port #10 (default VLAN #1) can already ping Dell Switch's IP 192.168.0.160 (web interface). But it cannot ping SMC's IP 192.168.0.161 (web interface).

What I have so far :

Dell trunk config : 

interface ethernet 1/g1
channel-group 1 mode on
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 1-3
exit

switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan add 1-3

I currently have a stack of SMC 8748M switches (total of 4). I'm using 2 VLAN on it (1 and 2). What I have so far :

  • a trunk between SMC and Dell switches, (2 ports trunk).

When I put a single port on a vLAN #1 on Dell switch, it is not recognized as the same VLAN #1 as on the SMC switches.

I have seen somewhere to enable GVRP, but I am not sure..

I would like to know how to do that on both side.
