Has someone converted successfully a running Oracle Enterprise Linux server to redhat enterprise and was able to register it on RHN network? Tried to install kernel from redhat, updated the rhnsd binaries. I have the following errors every time I try to register on Redhat;

This system is not subscribed to any channels.

RHN channel support will be disabled.

I have installed a samba PDC but when I test the samba configurations file I am getting errors like these, "Invalid combination of parameters for service homes. Map system can only work if create mask includes octal 010 (S_IXGRP)."

My Configuration file is as follows

comment = Home Directories
 path = /home_srv1/%u
 valid users = %S
 read only = No
 create mask = 0660
 directory mask = 0770
 browseable = No

I tried to google but with no luck, Serverfault is always my best hope.

I run bash scripts from time to time on my servers, I am trying to write a script that monitors log folders and compress log files if folder exceeds defined capacity. I know there better ways of doing what I am currently trying to do, your suggestions are more that welcome. Below is my script.

Is there a way to change the outbound email for root, i.e instead of [email protected] to [email protected]?

I have a newly installed Centos 5.2 box, everything seems working except ntpdate sync, I have done enable port 123 UDP to pass through the firewall. I have tried to use -u for unprivileged ports but still keeps throwing this error "no server suitable for synchronization found". Can anyone there help?

I am having problems when connecting to a remote ftp server that is running on UNIX.When I try to coonect it freezes on the welcome screen and it dos=esnt prompt for password and username. Connected to 17.17.0.181.

It just freezes there nothing, if I try to kill it with control c or z it wont die! I have to log on to another console and do the kill PID thingy. I know I am certain its something to do with firewall or routing because I can connect from else where.

My firewall iptables has the following settings

I am running subversion 1.4 on Centos 5.2 and my clients are using tortoise to do their check out, commit etc. I think I have permissions problems but I have configured the folder to accessible to everyone with 777 attribute but I seem not to be getting anywhere. Its generating this error on tortoise "svn: Can't open file 'PATH/TO/MY/FILES/entries': Permission denied". Some guy was suggesting some indexing software installed on the client machine like google desktop, any suggestions?

What might be the best way to start up tomcat instances automatically? I have numerous vhost configured to use tomcat on various ports. I am sure someone out there came across this challenging admin task. Do you think rc.local will do? I dont want to cloud that file with so many commands, I want a once off script if its applicable.

I have problem with my yum, I am trying to install subversion or any other software I am getting any error [Errno -1] Header is not complete. Trying other mirror all the time. I am running CentOS release 5 (Final) on kernel 2.6.18-53.1.21.el5PAE i386, I am behind a proxy. I have other flavours(centos,redhat,fedora) of linux that have the same network settings but they are able to update and install with yum. I have tried to do a yum clean all and then yum -y update but to no success. Your help is very welcome.

I am running endian firewall release 2.2.rc3 and I have just installed sarg to monitor bandwidth usage but I sarg daily index.html is not being created. Has anyone come across such scenarios?
