I'm trying to follow this tutorial to run KVM nested in WSL 2, but after following the directions through compiling the kernel and loading it, the test kvm-ok reports that KVM is not supported.

I've tried multiple options: enabling hyper-v, disabling it, verifying BIOS/CPU support, enabling/disabling Device Guard, other steps in some vmware docs (bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype, suboptions under gpedit/DeviceGuard).

When I do disable hyper-v, set hypervisorlaunchtype off, and disable Device Guard, then I get the following options in system info, but then wsl2 fails to launch at all, saying "Please enable the Virtual Machine Platform Windows feature and ensure virtualization is enabled in the BIOS."

system info enter image description here Any other configuration I try, sys info says that a hypervisor is running and won't show the hyper-v values, but I end up running into the initial problem of KVM not being supported in WSL2. Also if I try enabling "Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT" in VMWare Player, that fails to launch as well.

Stepping back, ultimately what I'm trying to do is run the firecracker demo on my windows laptop. So if there's an easier way to do this then lmk.

Update

I noticed it works in VMWare Player with an Ubuntu image. Or at least, kvm-ok reports that it's enabled, /dev/kvm exists. I'd still rather use WSL2. But it's refusing to load.

We've moved from Heroku to self-hosting for various reasons.

One aspect of Heroku that I've not yet been able to reproduce though, is when our app is restarted, the site immediately starts giving 502 bad gateway errors until the app was finished loading.

On Heroku however it would hold the connection, so the browser will just spin until the app is finished loading, and only then return the response. Is there any way to configure nginx to behave similarly?

Note the "possible duplicate of..." comment below has no accepted answers, and the one upvoted answer doesn't help for REST calls.

When in bash I can run: 

java -jar server.jar &>> log.txt

And it combines the stdout and stderr into log.txt. However when I have this line in my Upstart .conf file, it does not do this:

exec java -jar server.jar &>> log.txt

I’ve also tried separating the logs as:

exec java -jar server.jar >> log.txt 2>> err.txt

And this doesn’t work either. It will work if I make it overwrite instead of append, e.g. 

exec java -jar server.jar > log.txt 2> err.txt

But this is not acceptable. Is this a bug in Upstart or is there something I’m misunderstanding? I’m running Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, Upstart version 1.12.1, and I’m fairly new to both.

I have an nginx reverse proxy server set up to forward requests to an app running on port 5000 via proxy_pass http://localhost:5000;.

This works, however when I restart the app, for about 10 sec any requests immediately return 502 Bad Gateway, until the app reloads again.

Is there any way to set up Nginx to hold those requests while the app is down, retrying every so often? I've tried 

upstream backend {                         
  server localhost:5000 fail_timeout=20s; 
  server localhost:5000 backup;          
}
...
    proxy_pass http://backend;

but that doesn't seem to have an effect.
