I understand as far as what is happening with my code as to why I'm getting a infinite loop. So I have the following:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^foo/?([^/]+)?/?(.+)? /foo.php?bar=$1&baz=$2 [L,NC]
</IfModule>

So, what is happening is the user is coming in at foo (or foo/a/b) and getting redirected to foo.php?bar=$1&baz=$2. But at this point (and this is where I know I need a more thorough explanation, since I'm sure this is by design) the .htaccess file is being rerun on foo.php?bar=$1&baz=$2, which matches my rule, and goes into an infinite loop. But I don't know why it is being rerun through my rules.

What is it that I'm not understanding about .htaccess RewriteRules?

PS I have solved this immediate problem placing the following commands before the rule, but I would like to know why so I can fix the problem in the future (and so I can remove these lines and do other things instead).

RewriteCondition %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCondition %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

So, I have MySQL installed on my machine, and I need to change the ft_max_word_len, the maximum word length that MySQL will index. However, when I set it up via the tools provided, and query it, it still lists it as a max of 84 (I need 128+). When I try and use the command line, I get the following:

C:\>mysqld --ft_max_word_len=128
111210 23:55:46 [Warning] option 'ft_max_word_len': unsigned value 256 adjusted to 84
111210 23:55:46 [Warning] option 'ft_max_word_len': unsigned value 128 adjusted to 84

It should be noted, I tried to change it to 256 in the GUI tools, so that may be where that value is coming from. But why would I get both, and why can I not adjust this value?

Of note, I am on Windows 7, and MySQL 5.1.41 for 64bit.

Update: From @thinice's comment, this leads me to believe that this is a bug in MySQL (and from the sounds of it an mostly undocumented one, which I will need to change). So maybe my question is, would anyone have any inkling of how to change that value?

So, I'd like to turn the following url:

tags/tag1/tag2/tag3

into one that is parameterized like:

tags.php?tags=tag1&tags=tag2&tags=tag3

which has left me with the following RewriteRules (among others)

RewriteRule ^tags/([^/]+)(/.+)?$ tags.php?tags=$1$2 [C]
RewriteRule ^tags.php?tags=([^/]+)/([^/]+)(/.+)?$ tags.php?tags=$1&tags=$2$3 [N]

but when I pull up the tags variable using php I get "tag1/tag2/tag3", which leads me to believe it is not running correctly. Anyone have any idea why the second rule isn't even getting applied once?
