My Goal is to make client-to-server redirection work in citrix XenApp sessions. I believe my problem is caused by the default behavior of client drive mapping, but I could be wrong.

Currently, I have ServerA with IE, and ServerB with Microsoft Word. From my desktop, if I open a word document, ServerB launches Microsoft Word, and opens the document. If I launch an IE session using XenApp on ServerA, and click on a word document, ServerB launches Word, but the document does not open. If I connect to ServerA through RDP, and click on the same word document, ServerB launches Word, and the document opens.

I believe the problem is caused by the client drive mapping behavior, but I cannot find any way to change how it behaves. When I open a word document and it works, ServerB has a drive mapped to the machine I am using. So if I try to open it from my computer, it has a drive mapped to my computer, if I use ServerA through RDP it has a drive mapped to ServerA. When I use a Citrix session on ServerA to open a word document, it has a drive mapped to my computer, not to ServerA. I think that I need a drive mapped to ServerA.

I have also checked the documentation in the Citrix Administrators guide for our Client, and for our Version of XenApp. The application looks to be configured properly with the "%*" wildcard configured to receive the information from the client. Client drive mappings are also enabled.

I cannot find any information on how to change the behavior of client drive mapping.

We have a small number of citrix servers that all have office installed. Only a small subset of users have access to office. Everyone is set to open office documents with the free viewers on the Citrix servers. We control access to office through NTFS permissions. We now have a large number of users who need to be able to view office documents from a webpage. Opening office files normally works fine. When users open the office documents from the link in a webpage, it ignores the file associations and attempts to open the document with the full office program.

How can I change the program that IE uses to open office documents, or how can I force it to use the file associations I set in the operating system?

Quick background

I have an application that we run on Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 that needs a configuration file for each machine. Currently those files are stored on a file server that is not highly available. I want to move those files to a DFS (which I have never setup before). I think that the best option is to use the citrix servers themselves as the DFS servers and use the file replication service to ensure they are always up to date on all the servers.

Can this be done is the biggest question, and of course, should I do this or is there a better solution I am not aware of?

Edit: Considering some of the answers so far, I want to be more clear. My goal is to make the system more reliable. Right now our file server is not redundant in anyway, if it goes down we need to restore it from backups, and this application will not work. My idea to put the DFS shares on the citrix servers themselves is because I need both the files and the citrix servers for the program to work, so my goal is if even one citrix server survives whatever form of disaster we might have, I want those files to be available.

So a more clear question might be, will using my citrix servers as DFS root servers for these configuration files make my system more reliable, or will I have problems with the two that will make it less reliable?

We have a single file server in a single domain on our network. However, when department heads and the CEO try to save files from word and excel over their VPN connection, they are very slow. It is so slow the program comes up as not responding, and appears to crash. When we were test saving files on the file server we see the same problem with word and excel documents. We only see the problem when we save a document that has been updated, but not when saving a new document. When we follow the exact same steps on other servers we do not see any speed problems.

The only difference I have found between the servers is that the file server has an intel network team using the two onboard intel nics. Our other server that we tested with has a broadcom network team using two onboard broadcom nics. I do not have another server with an intel network team setup that I can use to test. One strange thing we have found is that running a packet sniffer while saving the files on the file server and the test server, the file server seems to be listing all of the files in several directories during the test of "open, modify, save."

Until now, our network manager had been working on this, and I just got brought into it. To be honest, I do not even know where I should start looking for the actual cause of the problem.

We have a new computer build that is locked down via GPO. We have locked it down as tight as we can, but now new IE windows that are opened with shortcuts open behind the active window. I can post the whole list of restrictions if it is necessary, but there are a lot of restrictions. The machine has a domain account that automatically logs in, that account is the actual AD object that we have locked down. What restrictions could cause the new windows to not have focus?

I apologize for a question like this, but I had 1 day to build this, and now 2 days to iron out bugs our clinical analysts find.

I have a scheduled task that I am going to deploy through a script.
The task needs to be interactive with the users desktop, so I think I need to use AT.
I also want to be able to remove the task from the computers when something in the task needs to be updated or if the task is no longer needed.
I do not want to delete all the other scheduled tasks when I do this, so I want my script to have a specific ID number that I can delete at a later date. I have checked the documentation for the AT command, but I cannot find documentation on how to create a scheduled task with a specific ID. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313565)

Is there a way to create a scheduled task with a specific ID, or am is there a better way to achieve my goals?

Clients are Windows-XP Scheduled task runs a small executable. All clients are part of a domain, and I have domain admin rights.

On our citrix server we are going to be publishing several folders with office files for remote offices. A small number of our users need to be able to edit the files, and we have office licenses for them. For the rest of our users, they only need to be able to view and print the files. What I need to happen is; if user A, launches the app, she should see the folder and when she double clicks on an office document, the full office program opens the file for editing, if user B launches the app, she should see the folder, and when she double clicks on an office document it should open it with the free viewer.

Right now, office is installed on each server, full and viewer. Users who have office are put into an active directory group. Only members of that group can launch the full office product.

We have been having problems with the oracle 10g client on our Citrix servers. Through google I figured out that granting users this security right fixed the oracle problem. However, this right seems to be causing some form of profile issue. Many users are now receiving errors when they log in that say their profile could not be loaded.

Servers are running the UPHC service, and are up to date on the latest windows patches that our vendors have certified.

Edit: Does anyone know of a way to get oracle 10g working on terminal services without this setting, or has anyone encountered this profile corruption problem and fixed it before?
