I'm using an Apache proxy on one server in front of tomcat on a different server.

What is the the bandwidth between the two EC2 instances if they are in the same availability zone? Does this have anything to do with the network performance of the instance?

I am running a webserver with very little writes (apart from log files). According to amazon:

When enabled, Amazon EC2 does not shut down the instance before creating the image. When this option is used, file system integrity on the created image cannot be guaranteed.

If I copy the AMI without reboot and it loads up fine should I be concerned that there may be a problem at a later time with corruption?

I'm using Apache HTTPD to proxy a local Tomcat server:

ProxyPass / http://localhost:8080/
ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8080/

Everything works fine except when I have a 302 redirect. For some reason the ProxyPassReverse doesn't rewrite the localhost:8080 and the client gets redirected to localhost:8080 which causes a browser error.

How can I get ProxyPassReverse to work with 302 redirects?

I am using mod_proxy_ajp with Tomcat and I receive the following error:

(70007)The timeout specified has expired: ajp_ilink_receive() can't receive header

How do I fix this?

I would like to kill a java process based on the command name... Whats the best way to do it?

(i.e. when you do ps -f the name in the CMD column).

I'm using set -e to force my script to exit whenever an error occurs running a command. However this has the side effect of closing my putty terminal window that I am using to connect via SSH to the host.

How do I stop the terminal from closing?

I have created a directory

/xyz/www

With the following permissions:

-rw-r--r--. 1 myuser developers

I edited my http.conf:

DocumentRoot "/xyz/www/"
<Directory "/xyz/www/">
    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
</Directory>

I get 403 error: You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Looking in the logs:

(13)Permission denied: Can't open directory for index: /xyz/www/

I've tried recursively adding 777 permissions but still have the same issue.

I have a crontab script which runs fine from the interactive shell. However when running from crontab it fails because it doesnt run the scripts in /etc/profile.d/ (e.g. /etc/profile.d/java.sh)

Whats the best way of fixing this?

Is it possible to configure java in unix to always add a JRE parameter whenever java is run? e.g. -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=25800

I've installed ssmtp and I can send emails fine using the ssmtp command. However the mail command doesn't work. How do I set this up?

I have the following /etc/environment:

export PATH=$PATH

Whenever I log in I get the following errors:

-bash: id: command not found
-bash: tty: command not found

What am I doing wrong?

(my actual /etc/enviroment is more complicated and sets up java onto the path but for simplicity I cant even get the above to work)

I'm trying to connect to a counterparty using VPN IPsec. I have a standard cable broadband connection with a single static IP address. The counterparty have asked me for my "Public IP Address Assigned to VPN Device" and also my "Encryption Domain".

What exactly is an encryption domain? (Is this my internal IP address of the host machine).
