I'm trying to use ADMT to migrate several XP machines to a new domain and the utility (nor command line) is able to access the admin$ share or any drive share.

I've added the required registry key (HKCurrent\Services\LanMan\Param) for both servers and workstation admin sharing, rebooted the PC and still am unable to access it.

How can I access the admin share on these PCs?

If it helps, this machine used to have McAfee installed, and the Windows firewall enabled. I stoppped both of them and the machine is still not allowing me to access it remotely by a drive$ share.

I am looking at doing a cross forest AD migration from SBS 2003 to SBS 2011. I have a new server that runs SBS 2011 with a new domain name and am looking at moving all the user profiles from say old.local to new.local.

There's only around 12 users so this is not a big move.

I was going forward with using ADMT, and upon setting up trusts between SBS 2003's forest and SBS 2011's forest I found out SBS 2003 does not support trusts with other domains. It therefore appears I cannot use ADMT as it tells me "ADMT is unable to connect to domain controller" "Access is denied. (0x80070005)" which I believe is due to cross forest trusts.

The reason I wanted to migrate AD was that I was under the assumption with migrating AD I can preserve the user's SIDs and therefore when they log on their PC in a new domain they will use the same user profile on the PC after a domain change. All of their Desktop/Documents/Settings/Etc will not have to be copied between profiles under C:\Users. I also don't like having profiles names under C:\Users\ such as 'account' and 'account.new' which you get when a users logs in with the same account name but new SID to my understanding.

I only need to copy users as the Security Groups have been completely redone, and Exchange mailboxes I can do manually between the servers with export/import (unless there's a faster way).

Is it possible for me to migrate all the users between the servers? Or should I simply recreate the user accounts on the new server and manually copy their profiles at all of their desktops?

Our company is planning on moving from a single forest with multiple domains to a single forest with a single domain.

Now, we are planning to move our child domains on root-dc.techtunes.lan then we will create separate OU for each site and also place Global Catalogs on each site for backup purposes.

I have read that the Active Directory Migration Tool v3.2 is an important tool to migrate our users, but I have some questions about it.

What happens with users whose names are duplicated in each domain? For example: one user named abc is in Cambridge and also in Karachi. What happens when we move both acb accounts to a single domain?

What about other services like DHCP and DNS? We want to run DHCP locally at each site.

I'd appreciate answers on how to proceed.

We have two domains in separate forests and need to merge/migrate them. I believe a simple migration with ADMT will move all the local user profiles over, and will not be a problem. The potential problem is that all the users in domain2, have identical user accounts (same user/pass) in domain1 so that they can have exchange mailboxes.

If we do a migration with ADMT, will we have any issues since the users need to be merged, whereas computers and local profiles need to be migrated?

I have to do a migration of my active directory to a new domain. I know that a lot of the SharePoint and SQL applications we run use domain accounts inside them and I'm worried how the migration will affect them. I'm assuming that as long as the account keep the same SID in the transfer I should be okay. Will it keep my SIDs the same?
