I have various types of VM's running that I'd like to use my local host machine's proxy settings. This way any browser activity from the VM would go through the host proxy even if the VM's proxy settings are turned off. But they seem to ignore the settings and just go straight out to the internet bypassing the proxy. I'd like the same response from smart phone emulators installed on the host. But they ignore the host settings as well. How can they even do that in the first place???

I'm looking for a way to run HP-UX (for educational purposes), but I don't have HP hardware right now.
These options are not very suitable for me:
A year ago I was working as a system integrator at TTI Telecom and now I'm (self-|un)employed and don't want to look for job right now because of institute graduation. TTI and some other companies with offices in my city use HP-UX. So better knowledge of HP-UX could be a very useful skill if I decide to work there.
With the new Exchange boxes going in, I'd like to do some thorough testing on smartphone features, as well as being able to provide salesman-proof documentation (I'm a dreamer). We've got drastic smartphone-creep, and people have been allowed to expect connectivity on everything from iPhones to Q's to Blackberries. (thanks, boss!)
Rants aside, has anyone else out there been cursed with supporting every smartphone on the planet, and are there good emulators out there to allow testing/documentation?
So far, what's out there seems aimed at developers, and I suspect this would make more sense if I were starting with the SDK and working my way outward. Currently, I seem to be in this repeating pattern of downloading & installing a lot of square pegs & round holes.

post-RTFM edit - is this doable without installing Visual Studio and the SDK? I truly don't want to develop, just test. I'm a big Google-fail on this one.
I'm working on software that needs to communicate with hardware over RS232 interfaces. In order to test I'm currently using 2 USB-TO-SERIAL devices connected to eachother using an RS232 cable. (Of course both USB devices are connected to the same computer).
While it's perfectly possible to test this way, I'm wondering if there is no way to create 2 virtual com ports on my system and connect them to eachother.
I'm using Windows 7 RC1
I have a open relationship with Linux, i use it on and off and i just got into the latest ubuntu and got a change to try out wine and it seemed to take any windows app and make it like i was actually using windows.
I wanted to know is wine that stable to use in production/businesses or are there problems that i haven't come across yet?
