QNAP's QTS version 5 has now Wireguard as a protocol in QVPN. There is however - as opposed to to OpenVPN - no option to download an easy-to setup config file to quickly connect a client to your NAS.
It seems that users need to create their own Wireguard config file to get this running. As I do not know the syntax of these files, what do I need to do to switch from OpenVPN to Wireguard?
I have Three drives plugged into my QNAP and assigned to Storage Pool 1 I added a fourth hardd rive into my QNAP and I want to add it to Storage Pool 1.
I opened the Storage Manager. I opened the Storage Pools Menu. I clicked on Expanding Pool. I went through the Doalog options (Adding new hard drive, select drive 4, reading the summary). The step i am currently stuck on is the Expand Button.
There I am asked if I am sure that i want this. All the data on the hard drive(s) will be erased. Are you sure you want to continue? OK or Cancel.
I am not sure because i do not know what data will be lost. All Data on Hard drive 4 can be lost (it is empty). All the Date on the existing three drives in the storage pool has to be maintained. They are my only copy.
How does expanding work? Will i loose all data on drives 1,2,3,4. Or will i only loose data on drive 4?
I found similar questions to this one with good answers. But data is too important to not go the extra mile and ask if someone know this specifically for QNAP Hardware. Other Questions: 1,2
If I pull the network connector of an iSCSI device, what happens? Will the "client" automatically connect again if I plug it in again? Is there a timeout?
(in my case I'm talking about a QNAP NAS which provides the iSCSI disk and a Ubuntu Server which mounts it)
I'm having a problem transfering large (50-200GB) VHD files from a Windows Server 2008R2 machine to a QNAP NAS. After the transfer is completed, I verify the data using a CRC32 checksum to ensure it wasn't corrupted (these are important backups). I am getting constant CRC miss-matches for large files. I have tried using SAMBA and FTP, both with the same problem. I have tried several different tools to calculate the CRC checksum to rule out false negatives.

IMO, this has been narrowed down to the QNAP device. I've ruled out the windows server, networking gear, samba protocol/version. Is there anything else I could try?
The QNAP share is configured as a RAID5 with the EXT3 filesystem.
We have two qnap devices - one in our datacentre and one off-site. We have hundreds of password protected RAR files stored on the qnap that contain virtual machine image snapshots, with approx 20 of them being created each day.
We synchronise the two devices using rsync, and it looks like all the files are being rsynced OK - they come over and have the same file size and all the files are present and accounted for.
However, when I try to open the RAR files on the remote site, I get
Cannot open \\qnap01\FromDatacentre\Snapshots\DB001SQL1-20110626.rar
I can open the RAR files on the local site just fine, so I assume that something is getting mangled during the rsync procedure. However, the older files (pre 2011-06-20) work just fine, it's something that's only started happening in the last week.
There haven't been (as far as I know) any changes to any of the devices, setup or configuration in that time. Obviously something has changed though.
Where should I start investigating?
